Topic: Any good sources for a rebuilt CB750 engine or someone who rebuilds them?

Depending on how brave I get, I may try to DIY, but I'd feel more confident getting a road ready rebuilt engine from a good source.  Can you recommend someone who rebuilds or sells used CB750 engines?

I'd rather not tempt fate and stick within a lower brain damage threshold by doing the other parts of my CB750 project.

I just bought a 1970 frame, that came with a engine crank-case (without the upper half of the engine - cylinders, pistons, head, crankshaft, rockers, valvecover).  I can either search for more engine parts to make a Franken-engine, buy a used buy usable/rebuildable engine or buy a rebuilt.

sounds like someone was wanting engine #'s to make a phony older model bike or restore their older model bike which was replaced with a newer engine.

you're best bet is to buy a complete engine and see what's up from there

What's the 411 on Hondaman?  Does he rebuild engines?

I guess this depends on your definition of "decent" but my experience is that VANISHINGLY FEW motorcycle dealerships or independent shops have the expertise and experience to properly rebuild a 35-year old CB750 engine - most won't even take on the work.  A generic engine shop that works on car engines?  No way.

When I had mine rebuilt, I did a lot of research and in the entire Seattle area there were basically two shops that came with a reputation for doing decent engine rebuild work on old bikes.  I interviewed them both and the guy I chose ran an independent shop that was well respected, had a CB750K0 in his office, and had rebuilt tens of them over the years.  It took a lot longer than planned and cost a bit more, but I'm happy with the work.

I definitely would like to get Carpy involved in one way or another on my project (even if it's just getting some parts or rebuild work).  I'm hoping he'll find my email amongst the many in his inbox when he gets back from Sturgis.
