Topic: Can I split the case on a '75 CB550 without removing the jugs and cylinder head?

I am working on my 1975 CB550 engine. The No.2 piston is pretty rusted in as the exhaust valve was open and the engine sat and sat and sat. Going by when the VA inspection sticker it sat for about 24 years. Any ways, it ain't going anywhere on its own. I have socked it in ATF fluid and now some Liquid Wrench.

So, I was wondering if I could split the case and disconnect the rod from the crank so I can work on it easier.

I don't know the 550 but on the 650 you can.

Thanks, I am lead to believe so via the service manual but i wanted to know if anyone else had done this on a 550 engine.

If the piston is stuck you probly have to take it all apart..
 unless you start from the top, and manage to free the piston, then you can leave bottom end intact..
