Guys, sorry I've come on here so late - I've had to work all day and finish getting the trailer, tie-downs, and covers put up after letting them dry all day.

I really regret not making better plans. This was my first year at Barbers during the Vintage Festival - it will not be my last. I was overseas last year and tied-up with family reunions for the first 2. I do want to make this shameless plug though -

I want to invite all of you to join me next year as VJMC members. We get a lot of special perks as members and you all could have participated if I'd put the word out sooner. Remember, you just have to be a member, you don't have to enter the "stock" show.

1) Friday - "Sounds of Horsepower" - this was a contest of "sound" - not loud, but music. 3 different judges went around and listened to the bikes entered in singles, twins, triples, 4 cylinders, and 6 cylinders. The objective was to find which bike stirred their soles - (actually held Saturday due to Friday's rain). No one else but me thought the rasp of the little Avenger did any stirring :)

2) Awesome pancake breakfast - we raised $1,500 for Make A Wish thanks to many hungry customers. Next year we will have water, drinks, and juice.

3) Bike show and "peoples choice" - here the public (members and non-members) voters got the chance to win prizes among which was a $900 Yamaha surround sound stereo system. Bring 2 bikes for the vintage show and your entire 3 day parking and entrance to the park is free.

4) Dinner $10 - fresh grilled food and drinks all prepared on-site by members.

5) Sunday - parade lap of the track. VJMC Members only.

I will be there again next year and I will be on this board to help anyone who wants to participate in the fun to do so. I had a blast and I must say - having friends old an new participate made it so much better than going solo.

Regards,
Gordon

You might get lucky and have people accidently put your number in the voting pot like I did. My restored bikes did not even place among the entries - it was the 2 original "oldies" with rust, scratches, and 40 years of character that won a 2nd and 3rd place. I guess my wife was right when she said I was crazy to do all that work trying to make an old bike look new. The old bikes that looked just like old bikes won the trophies. They had dust, chipped paint, and obvious wear - original wear, but nothing sugar coated.

Barbers flat rocks -where else are you going to see these - and 1,000 more just as interesting?

Gordon,

Be proud of the job you guys did at the VJMC show, and well done with the fund raising b-fast. By the way it was no accident that people voted for your bikes.

I didn't tell you I had a buddy with an Avenger when we were young-uns and those little rotary valve jobs were really quick. Thanks for bringing that one too. Man there were a lot of beauties there.

I was there Friday (soaked all the way thru) and rode back over on Sunday (much better). The event is great, but seemed like there were less people/bikes this year than the years before. The vendor area was kinda disappointing this year too ... as it's getting harder and harder to find stuff that's not past the point of used up. Even with the faults being more pronounced this year (to me), I have to agree .. this is a CANT MISS event. I snapped a couple pics ..

Pretty sure the owner said he rode in from Orlando, Fla area.

Had Canada plates on it, but the license plate had bug guts on it. Had a few simple mods to it.

Both of these belonged to the same guy - and boy were they nice.

This was a very well put together cafe. 400, I think?

My fav Norton seen over the weekend.

Damn!
I was so busy with the museum Fri and Sat I did not even think to check this post. I am glad everyone had a good time and I am sorry I missed everyone. I a did have to work after my shift so I guess I have a reason to take all of October off next year. 9th 10th 11th next year boys....
If you are coming to town any time to visit the facility and Museum and you need a tour guide I am your guy as I can be there in 20 min, but it is best to call ahead. ;D
Friday we had 1100 visitors to the museum and I met many people from all over. Saturday was just plain beautiful and the turn out was excellent.
It did not hurt that they ran three Lotus' from the collection on the track and Bobby Allisons Miller stock car on the perimeter road. They really open it up for fun on days like these.
See you next year gents....

FYI The best day for the Swap Meet is Saturday. I went in on friday and there was a good bit of stuff but not all out yet and according to my peeps (I do have a few) Sunday was a wash, most were packing up. While this is not law it seems that is the way it has worked for the last couple of years and I hope that gives some guidance on the question......

I was there Saturday, fantastic!
Picked up some parts at the swap, bought a jacket from one of the vendors. Prices sure beat futzing around with eBay!
A bunch of NICE bikes!

They may be packing everything up on Sunday, but that's the best time for deals to be had!

Well, here is a pic of the "other" group at Logan's....a good time was had by all.  ;D

I rode 10 hours back to Orlando on Sunday...spotted two wild hogs and four deer
alongside highway 19 in West Florida!  :o  Who says animals aren't out at 10pm?

It was a great show... and my first time. I am glad that my museum visit was earlier this
year as it seemed to be packed....hard to take pictures. Anyway, I am looking forward
to next year!

Guys, sounds like the trip was definitely worth it! If at all possible, I'm going next year, may not be with a bike, but I'll do my best to be there all the same. ;) If my Dad's in good enough shape, I KNOW he'd get a real charge out of it too! 8) I'll be really looking forward to meeting as many of you all that can make it also. :) Just reading through the posts here, makes me hunger for that kind of outing. More pictures please. ;D Glad you all made it back home okay Safely too!

Bill,

I'd like to see you there with your dad! I had a great time and the old bikes were simply everywhere. In the musuem, on the track, in the swap meet, on the grass, and there were several different vintage clubs there for the annual event. We got to make the lap around the track as mentioned in my ealier post above - I have 4 bikes there again next year, so you could use one of those to make the lap with us.

You rode that 650 hardtail to Birmingham from Baton Rouge? I am impressed. Non-muffled, open pipes, long stretch to the bars, and no suspension -

More of us need to say hello next year.

...yeah, I still can't believe I did it either.   The guys I rode with were originally going to pick up some guys in Mobile, AL, so I was gonna trailer over there, then ride up.  Well, that fell through thursday evening, so it was either trailer all the way to B'ham (couldn't live with myself if I did that), not go, or ride all the way up.  I said what the hell and rode up.  Tooks us 12 hours (all back roads).  Pulled into the camp site at 12am Friday night.  Felt like walking dead Monday mor'n at work...was Wed before I actually started feeling human again.  But theres nothing like a 1000 mile road trip to test your work...I just got this bike together in the last month.  Got a good story to tell the grandkids some day!!!   ;)

Way to go Mark! 8) ;)  Tell me, have you got any feeling in you backside yet? ??? :( Mine would be SO dead for SO long, if I attempted that. :D

Gordon, I'm sure gonna try to get my Dad and myself there next year, if at all possible. I imagine though, that we will come down in my minivan and "trailer" my 750 w/sidecar.

If you want to loose some of that monkey butt that you get on these old foam seats, cut a layer out and add some memory foam. During the process, cut out a triangle about where the bottom of your spine would be to take the pressure off of it and put more of your weight on your butt bones.  Also, try and narrow the sides of the seat where your legs go to take some of the pressure off of your inner thigh.

My XVZ12DN is like that and I could easily put 8 hours a day on it.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.
