cb550k exhaust question
« on: August 08, 2008, 07:43:48 PM »
Alright, been trying to get this bike road worthy. Trying to get it running just right today, and after some time and tinkering, my head was hurting from the exhaust.  Took the tailpipe off to have a look. Is the small piece the baffle, or does a baffle screw to the end of it? The end of it is threaded. Any other tip available than this megaphone looking one?
Thanks!
Nick

Are you talking about the "trumpet" shaped early pipes (pre '77), or the megaphone-type found on the '77-'78 550 K's?

I don't quite understand your question.  The pipes on the bike in your pics are not stock pipes.  Are your pipes too loud or do they leak (both of which would cause your head to hurt)?

The pipes are too loud. I was wondering if the small piece in the picture was the exhaust baffle, or if i needed to find a replacement.

See if you can find some stamping on it to find the maker.

Can't find any markings. After further inspection, it is missing another piece. Towards the end of the pipe, facing the wheel, is a small hole, most likely for a screw.
Now I just have to find out what exhaust it is..... :-X

What the heck is he running there, can't tell if it's a 4 into 1 or a two into 1???
First look I thought he had twisted a set of CB650 pipes across the front of the head but looks like the inner rusty one joins the chrome one just under the motor.
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

someone jammed a lawnmower silencer in the pipe. the threaded portion screws into the cylinder head on a briggs and stratton or Tecumseh engine.

Hahah another shady item found on my $300 bike!!
So, now that I know that, anyone recommend universal silencers that might work?
