Do coils "match" on a CB750?
« on: August 13, 2008, 07:32:46 PM »
Probaly a dumb question but here goes - I've noticed on several sets of CB750 coils I have that both coils (in a pair) have the same number on them, for example FL 703 12V 5Z. Now they all have the same Fl 703 12V but the last 2 numbers/letters. match on pairs of coils. I have 4 sets and on each pair the last 2 numbers/letters are the same for each set but are different from set to set.  The question is  - can I mix and match? I have a new coil for 2/3 and want to take the best 1/4 and make a pair. Told you it was dumb but anal people want to know these things. What to the last 2 numbers/letters mean?
Hondaman?
Thanks in advance,
Cliff.

Probably some sort of date code, If they had to match you would only have been able to buy them in "Pairs" and they have always been sold seperately

Just saw this today....
The coils are all interchangable for most purposes. This summer, I have been running a set of CB500 coils I happened to have, just to see how it goes. The wires fit, and the ohms are slightly higher (about 1/2 ohm more on these coils), spark has been adequate for commuting work. I'm about to put in my Dynas, if it ever stops raining this weekend...  >:(

in the pair there is one with a blue wire and one with a yellow, as far as I know.. but they should interchange., except for plugwire length?

I have what appears to be an NOS coil, looks like no plug ends have ever been mounted. BUT.. someone snipped off the connecor on the blue wire and the other one :o.. left enough to splice..

 How much do coils cost?

Check at Hondaparts-direct.com for coil prices. I bought a set last year, but my feeble mind doesn't remember how much I paid.  :-\

Swapping blue and yellow wires won't confuse the bike, but the owner, well....  ;)
