Oil Leak From Generator Cover
« on: August 14, 2008, 10:15:45 AM »

I have noticed an oil leak when I lean the bike over to the extreme left side from the generator cover. Not from the gasket but from one of the three screw holes in the round "HONDA" area.
Is this a breather? I've also noticed some crankcase blowby from this place when I start the motor warm.

Normal or is there a repair?

(Did a search and found this has been asked before, but was not answered)

                                  Thanks! ;)

I know there is a washer behind each of the 3 screws on my KO.  Maybe you are missing one.  Those screws hold the stator to the inside of that cover.

Looks like someone had too long a bolt in the leaking hole. The parts book called for a 36mm bolt, that's what was there but it was bottomed and caused the leak.
Shortened the bolt to 20mm and no leaks.

                         Thanks for the reply!

Really ????   I'm not sure about the 750, but the 650 has a plug that closes up a port left from manufacturing the crankcases.

Are you sure that oil is not pooling in the now properly sealed off generator area?

Might not be the case, but I thought that I'd mention it just in case.

Cheers...Joe

There are aluminum flat washers under the screw heads.

Gundum, that plug is underneath the transmission cover on a 750.

Art, If you're interested, the Dixie Classic Bike Club (aka Old Farts Motorcycle Club) meets the 2nd and last Thursdays of the month in Birmingham.  PM me and I'll let you know where we're meeting.

I know this has come up before, but there is supposed to be oil in the stator area under the left side cover of the 750.  Just did not want Gundum to worry about it.  Sounds like you got your oil leak fixed...good job.
