1969 CB750 horn & carb questions
« on: August 18, 2008, 12:58:37 PM »
Hi everyone,

I got this bike as a project and it is coming along just fine. Some parts weren't on the bike, but in a box. So here are my questions; The bike is a non-cast 1969 and it has TWO horns. One says H, and one says L. They are bolted together with a single bolt, and then attatched to the one frame lug on the right side. Are there supposed to be two horns? One will fit nicely, but will look awkward and unsymetrical. With the two, it looks nice but since one small bolt holds them on it seems flimszy at best. I have pictures of how the bike came to ne if someone would like to take a look. How is the darn thing, or things, supposed to mount???

Next, I get the impression that the original carbs each had a cable going up to a junction before going to the throttle and the newer models had a manifold with one throttle cable. This bike has the manifold type, which probably isn't correct but that's okay. On the airbox side, there appears to be what looks like what we used to call a velosity stack that goes on the carb body, and then the stack part actually goes inside the airbox and is inside by a good two inches. That's my question, is that right??? Does this part go in the airbox two inches??? And lastly, this bike was painted the original gold. Was the airbox black or gold.

Anyone's input will be appreciated.

I have a '69 myself. The original horn set-up was a single, mounted to the left as you look at the bike. Earlier models had it on the right, but moved it at some point, not sure what serial number.

As for the carbs, the original set-up was the four cables you mentioned. If you are not concerned with originality, you will appreciate what you have now, much easier to keep in sync.

The velocity stacks as you call them do protrude into the airbox quite a ways. You insert them from the airbox side and pull them gently until the airbox edge is situated in the lip on the rubber intakes.

As for the paint, on the K0's all the body parts were the same color, that is the headlight shell, fork ears, tank, sidecovers and the airbox. Post pics when you can, we love pictures. ;)

Thanks Bob, that helps...

Can you take a close-up of the horn/mounting, etc., and post it if you have a digital camera please? It would help. Also, how do I do my profile with a signature. This is my second Japanese reso (the first was a 1964 CB72). British bikes are my passion as I have three restos under my belt. This bike will be my son's graduation present and it will be a garage queen or a house bike.

Thanks,

The gold colour came out in 70.. serial # 19,000 or so.

Does the bike have a build month on the neck tag?, and I take it the frame number is higher than 7000?
