stinky stuff-turpentine I need help
« on: September 06, 2005, 11:19:49 AM »
Help. Wife won't let me back in the bedroom wearing my watch. Ok here's what happened:
I was draining a gastank, it had old turpentine smelling gas in it, and the rubber gloves I was wearing
didn't cover my watch. SO, the watch smells horrible. It's outside now so the birds can tell when their
food is coming.
What I tried:
1-baking soda with warm water,
2-lots of dish detergent with warm water,
3-OPPs, brake cleaner-result was the paint melted off, but it still works, tick-a-ticka
4-sun,
5-scrapper, and pipe cleaners, etc

so, any ideas that will not further damage the watch, get rid of the smell,
and allow me back into the nether regions of my home?

It could have been worse, you could have been using ChemDip (ask me how I know).

You sure it's the watch? What about the band, maybe just replace it..the band.  ???

Most of the Citrus cleaners are good about removing the smell. Try Orange Gojo or any of the orange solvents.

Sneak into her cosmetics cupboard (room?) and spray on a bit of her most expensive perfume.

Hang on though...  if she doesn't recognise it she may think that you are having an affair!

Maybe best to use a squirt of your best aftershave (what do you mean you have a ZZ Top beard??)

Hi Steve,
Hey, I cut my (zz top?) beard for a job interview. Didn't work, they recognized my sleezy side anyways.
Still unemployed >:(
Oh well, guess I'll try some of the Citrus stuff.
It is the watch band. Maybe I'll do the Vermonter thing and get some twine....

For future reference try going to an art supply store and get a product called Turpenoid. It is odorless turpentine.. we used it all the time in our oil painting class in college we used the stuff to clean our brushes and thin the paint down... If we hadn't used the odorless stuff.. just imagine the smell of 15 people with open turpentine containers in a 20 x 30 room!!!!  :-X
