i got a new toy today
« on: August 09, 2008, 03:35:37 PM »
just when i start to thinking my wife is a total beast, she does something really ultra cool like this. i got home from picking up a free motor in darlington today and i get home to this in the front yard, and a bow on it saying happy birthday (even though it isnt till the 27th) this is the first riding mower i've ever owned and i have to say getting the whole lawn done in an hour is way better than mowing a little bit every day with the self propelled one (i mow till my back gives out, mow the next day till it gives out.......)  it even has a place for my bottle of shiner bock while i mow.

Do you mean you are happy with that? Would your wife be happy if you present her with a dishwasher or an oven for her birthday?

Man, a lawnmower is a tool. If you mow the lawn and you think it is worth it, do you need your best half's approval? A birthday present should be something for your pleasure, not to make your housekeeping easier.

But women truely know us as how we are. Give us a toy with a wirring noise or a motor and it becomes a gift, not a tool.

Raul,

Now I truly know how little you understand Americans.   ;)

All American men who have lawns to mow and do not have a riding mower would view the gift of a riding mower like they were given a toy train set as a child.

I want to know Fuzzy if you got a twinkle in your eye and giggled like a little schoolgirl when you saw it  ;D ;D ;D ;D

That IS a cool gift,  8)  especially when you can ride and your back doesn't give out on you.  It's more time you can dedicate to the two-wheelers  ;)

Definitely I can't understand you americans..... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

How much do a riding lawnmower cost? How much does it cost to have somebody mow the lawn for you? How many times a month does the lawn need to be mown? How long could you have your lawn mowed by somebody if you used the riding lawnmower's money to pay him?

$25 a pop twice a month vs. $1000 or less for a riding lawn mower which will last forever if you take care of it?

Besides, it's got wheels and an engine.  How can you NOT see that as a cool ass gift?

How much money do you make per hour?

If the gardener charges you more per hour than what you make, do it yourself.
If the gardener charges you less per hour than what you make, farm it out.

Are you in a buyer's or a seller's market? For $65, you should have somebody mowing your lawn for six hours. If you ask your gardener how much for mowing and he says $65, ask somebody in need of a job to work for you at $10 per hour. Don't be the buyer; be the seller.

i've actually been working on an old craftsman 12hp rider for the last year or so. eventually i want to race it at the local flattrack.

i dont make an hourly wage, since i broke my neck i havent been able to work regularly at all. the money for the tractor came from the fees my wife collected as an executor for a large estate. the 65 includes weedeating as well, and it is far less than he charges for most other clients as he is one of my wifes tax clients so he gives us a major break. in the long run this tractor will pay for itself with me being able to mow our lawn myself. gives me back a little of my self-respect too, you have no idea how #$%*ty it made me feel not being able to do something as little as mowing the damn lawn. and with the neighbor with pitbulls that get loose from time to time and chase me, i wear my .357 whenever i work outside, i will NOT be bitten or attacked by these unruly beasts.
