Question about clutch plates CB500 - Pictures attached
« on: September 02, 2008, 08:43:38 AM »
Are these usable? I have new friction plates and will be using new springs, but didn't account for the plates looking like this. All 6 of them look basically the same and they are perfectly flat. The friction discs I'm replacing were barely worn and didn't need to be replaced; I just mis-diagnosed a problem and figured while it's apart, what the heck. Any advice on whether I should re-use these plates? Thanks.

The clutch was grabby when hot. I was advised to buy new friction plates which I did. After researching it further on this forum, I'm thinking the springs are probably weak. Wasn't going to mess with it until winter, but the leaky shift seal replacement that led to the discovery of the broken clutch actuator rod, that had to be pushed out from the clutch side opened the can of worms leading to the discovery of these clutch plates. So yes, there was a clutch problem, but as far as I know, it wasn't from the plates in question. I was just curious if they normally look like that after use or if they are shot. Thanks.

they are prob not as bad as they look but the only way to be sure is to mesure there thickness you will need to look up what the service limit is, If it was me and i had the money then i would replace all the plates.
