New Rider with Question.
« on: August 12, 2008, 05:40:14 PM »
Hello all. I am a new rider looking to buy my first bike. I am looking at CB's and Bonnevilles and would like to know which CB you all recommend. I am 6'4" and weigh 220. I have seen a few really nice CB360's and 400's down around the ATL area here and was wondering how it would work with taller riders? Should I go for a 500+?

Thanks,
James

A good first bike for you might be a CB450.  Tall seat and enough power.

And welcome.

You will want a 750

You should start with some thing smaller for learning/.......... 550

Get the 750 later ;D

Thanks guys, that was along the lines of what I was thinking but wanted to ask a few riders actually riding these bikes.

Appreciate it!

I am 6'4" 230 and ride a 750.  This was technically my first bike, but I had ridden prior to owning this bike.  I think it would be good idea to do some riding on something smaller.  I look like a circus bear on most bikes including my 750, so anything will look small under you.

I agree with Hopter, while I am on 5' 8" I see a lot of full sized guys riding small bikes. The look uncomfortable. The 750 can move you along and is more stable at speed.

You should try the bikes out.  I have found that some larger displacement bikes are not really tall-friendly.  I'm 6'1", about 200lbs.  HD Road King caused me leg cramps.  My CB550 actually feels more roomy than my GL1200.  Yamaha Seca II was good for me, but '90s CB750 not so good.  '70s CB750s seem larger.  Yamaha FZ6 nice fit.  Suzuki SV650 a little cramped, Bandit 600 was better, etc., etc.

Bottom line is that you really need to try out some bikes, and get a feel for what you like.

Hi

I'm 6'1 and about 210(quick conversion from kg's).

Think you will be fine with a 750.

Great bike to ride and dead easy with it.

Enjoy!!!!!!!!

Cheers
