hello from england
« on: August 12, 2008, 03:42:20 PM »
hi guys

just a quick hello, name is mike , from a place in northants england.( google rockingham speedway circuit, live 500 yds from it)

getting back into bikes after 15 years away, recently purchased a 78 550/4 and have started on the resto of it, bike has been stripped, frame etc of to get powdercoated, and am currently having a bash at the wheels, bryanj who is on here is going to help me rebuild the engine,( ex honda mechanic ) .

so what knowledge do i have, well bikes nowt, but that is half the fun, reason for this bike , well my father was into bikes and can remember him having them back in the 70's when i was a kid, cb's, triumph bonneville, trident etc.

story of bike, well bought about 6 weeks ago, one owner from new, he purchased from new and used for 4 years then put into storage in 83 ( his garage) , never seen daylight since till i bought it.

so once frame is back let the rebuild commence

cheers guy

speak soon

pics i hear you say ,well why not i have taken loads think they will be needed once rebuild really starts

Hi from Ontario ,Canada........I'm trying a semi-restore on a 78 550k
1978 cb 550k......stock,my first re-build

Loud pipes suck.......

If you buy something.........pay for it !
If you sell something .......ship it !
If you say you are going to do something......do it !
If you have a question about something......ask it !
When the seller answers ........let him know whether you still want it or not !
If you receive something .....let the seller know you got it !
If you get something and are happy/un happy with it .....let the giver/seller know !
If you have any kind of issue,shipping/receiving/quality/price/shipping charges etc !
Communicate

hi

guess i am trying to do the same, so far really apart from strip down, main job seems to have been cleaning, cant see it going back to original set up,  exhausts although externally in good condition, when i took them off the insides were like dust,  have some time to think about them as only just about to get back into rebuild stage , will put some pics up when frame ,stands swingarm etc is back from coaters,

what stage you at with yours then, i will share the problems with you, main problem so far was the oil filter bolt.

Hello Mike, welcome to the forum. Best place to be when you're in trouble here, bikewise. I live in rainy (crap summer) Sussex and am restoring a 750 k2, slowly, very slowly. Got to the part where I'm about to order the bits for the engine from Dave Silver but after a very expensive summer (new bathroom, boiler and wedding) I'm "consolidating" my financial situation.
Bryanj is a legend on this forum. His knowledge of bikes in encyclopedic, so you got the right guy for the job. I wish I lived next door to him I wouldn't have made some of the cack-handed mistakes I've made so far.
Don't forget to take LOADS of pics of the strip down so you'll remember how it all goes back together again. And keep all those nuts, bolts, widgets and grommets in separate transparent sealable bags and label each one.

Enjoy

Hi Mike

I,m a couple of hundred miles from you in sunny and warm (not) Teesside.

You have some good options with the pipes. If your not bothered about the standard route then the Marshall Deeptone sounds lovely, but check you can keep the main stand and get at the oilfiter bolt. Then there is Motad. I had one on my 750 bitsa. Nice and quiet with access to oilfilter and main stand. Silvers are advertising standard pipes for the K series though not sure about the F series Super Sport. Also I think Miv and/or Sito advertise copies as well.

Good luck with the rebuild.
