Hey guys-

I'm a total noob when it comes to bikes, but I've had a somewhat romantic affair with them since reading Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance years ago.  Recently I've been getting more into them since my father-in-law bought a custom '67 Triumph Bonneville and has been putting it together.  I joked to my wife about selling the Cavalier to buy a bike, and surprisingly she was ok with it.  Since then, I've been immersing myself in bikes, and have decided on an early '70s SOHC 4 for the one I want.  I've got no cash, no bike, no mechanical hands on knowledge, not even a license.  I'm trying to pick things up as I go, and as far as information wise this place seemed killer.  Upon finding it, I immediately had to join on.

Basically, look for easy questions from me, and the happy happy day I'll acquire the beast I want.  I'm also keeping my eyes peeled for an awful run down filthy cheap machine (not necessarily running condition) that I can take apart and get my hands dirty with.

Hey there, I'm a new member too (see my post just before yours) but I've had many bike and car projects.

My un-invited  :) advice to you would be to be patient until you find a running bike at a reasonable price.

Why spend money on a "an awful run down filthy cheap machine (not necessarily running condition)" when you can search out a running/driving bike with a title for $500 or so? Yes it costs a bit more up front but your diligence and patience is well rewarded every time you hear it run and drive it.

I won't tell you what I paid for the two I pictured in my post but they both were unbelievable deals. I just recently bought a running driving 350 twin with a title for only $400 and I also just sold an incomplete 350 twin parts bike with a locked up motor for $250. Now if the guy that bought my parts bike would have beat me to the running bike he would have only spent $150 more and been way ahead of the game.

Projects are much more enjoyable and realistically possible when you pay a little extra to start at the top of the hill than to pay less and push uphill.

My comments are meant to help but please have fun with whatever you find.

Welcome to the forum.

Welcome from England

This is the place for any help you might need.

Sometimes stuff gets advertised for free. I'm looking in the August 08 VJMC newsletter and a 1976 Honda CB200 and 1980 Kawasaki Z400J(I know it's not a Honda but it is a four) are advertised as complete and for free.

Fingers crossed, you never know!
