I've got a set of 400F carbs that I'd like to clean up and possibly install. The float area looks relatively clean, but all 4 slides are stuck rock solid.
Any ideas on what to soak them in to hopefully get them moving? I tried penetrating oil sprayed in and WD40 but no joy.

Usually it's dried fuel deposits that harden and glue the slides in place.  Spray can carb cleaner will usually soften those deposits and get the slides moving.  It evaporates pretty fast so you have to keep reapplying the stuff and sort of worry the slide actuator. Once they are moving spray more into it to flush out the "glue".  Otherwise when it dries out, they stick again.

I had the same problem with my 750. I took the tops off and poured carb cleaner directly in there. It will eat it's way through the gunk. You may have to wiggle or twist them as you pull them out. Once you have lossened wash them with more carb cleaner and dry. I them used to SemiChrome and Never Dull  to get them nice and smooth.  The interior can be scrubbed with the same cleaner and a toothbrush. Find the cheapest cleaner you can for this job.
