Carb screw won't stay screwed
« on: September 08, 2005, 04:46:52 PM »
I am having a little trouble 550k '75k
So the air-flow screw (don't know the name of it... the one that is adjustable from the outside of the carb) won't stay screwed in.  A little history.  These carbs have been overflowing because of the o-rings being bad, replaced those parts, in the process of cleaning and fixing them I pulled the slow jet out of this carb and it was broken.  I unscrewed this air-flow screw to try and blow out the tip of the slow jet. Got that out and replaced the slow jet.  I put the air-flow screw back in and unscrewed it 1.5 times.  Now when I go anywhere it vibrates loose!!! am I supposed to have some sort of o-ring to hold it in.  why won't it stay in????

There's supposed to be a rather stiff spring in there to maintain tension on the threads.

The spring is behind the air screw and sometimes comes out with it.

I've got a similar problem with a bike I just bought, the PO left the spring off the idle adjustment screw, so it either winds out, or in, of it's own free will. Very disconcerting when you pull up at the lights and it either cuts out, or idles at 5000 RPM, No wonder he sold it! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"
