How Do I Vet/Verify This Guy?
« on: August 18, 2008, 03:32:18 PM »
A new guy named Patrick Plummer posted some handlebars on TriumphRAT.net that I might like for my Sprint.  He emailed me promptly and offered to pull the item from Ebay and sell from his ad on the Triumph forum.  After Brimmer, et al I'm a little leery about dealing with newcomers.  I think he takes PayPal.

I tried Googling, but that didn't give me much useful info.

How do I check this guy out?

Thanks!
Mordechai

Good point.

The item is listed on Ebay by a seller 'michaelhelms'.  Totally different name.  He has 100% positive feedback in the last 12 months, and seems to be a pretty active seller - 119.

The feedback and volume would seem pretty encouraging.

Does his Ebay ad say that he has the right to pull the item at any time because it is for sale elsewhere?

If it doesn't, I would be a little leery.  It's not the best business practice, especially if others are currently bidding on the item.

It's now a moot point.  The guy just emailed that since the bids on Ebay have reached the minimum he hoped for, he's not selling them through the Triumph forum anymore.

Shrug.

Hey Jona!

Didn't mean to ignore you.  We don't have any trips home planned in the near future.  The upcoming holydays will probably be here in Santa Fe.

Maybe I can tell this guy I have a business associate in Haifa who first needs to check the item and okay it?  If it is okay then he'll receive a money order in shekels cashable at any Israel Post Office?   ;)

Fuzzy, I didn't have an founded doubts.  I'm just mindful of some of the creeps who show up and their very first post in an online community is 'hi, send me money and I'll ship you this item'.

But, as I say he emailed and is no longer offering to sell on the Triumph forum.
