While i'm at it i'm going to replace my points since they are oem.

for 1975 cb550k1

I've been searching a bit and see that getting a good set up points is important.. so what are good sets?  Just Nippodenso?

I seem to have a TEC plate and no idea who makes the points and the condensors.

can I use my TEC plate still without worrying that the new points are "compatible"?  I figure whatever i get will fit but figure i'll ask anyway.

Keep your original points and get a Hondaman Ignition.

well, they are fairly pitted and i'd like a new set that are as good or better than what i have right now.

I see Hondaman's posts on here but never have seen a way to buy his stuff like a site etc...
Without bothering him is there a way to see all his products and pricing?

AFAIK the ignition module is all that he sells, but I'm sure a PM would clarify the issue.

The ignition module turns the points into a low voltage switch, nullifying the pitted points problem.

However, if for some reason down the road, you wanted to remove the module (transfer it to another bike maybe) than new points would be requisite. So I suppose it's down to personal preference. It's been a few years since I've had to buy points, so I don't know how much they cost now. However, I do know that when I bought them way back when for my '71 SL175 they weren't too terribly expensive. Personally, I'd find the cheapest set of new points and get a HM Ignition to go with them.

In the same boat as you.  My 1/4 point seems to be missing one of the contact points so there is no way I can get the gap even remotely close.  Because of this the timing is off.  I''m looking for a new set of points and so far the only places i've found are ebay and a couple of the honda websites that pop up if you google honda parts direct.

I bought a NOS breaker plate assembly off sleezebay cheaper than I could have just bought the points locally.
Found them elsewhere inexpensive.

Thanks for the clarification pinhead.. that makes sense now.  I may do a hondaman ignition if i figure out where to buy hondaman parts.  Otherwise i'd like to find the best set of points i can.. which after reading soudns like the ND stuff seems to be the way to go.  If you go to hondaparts-direct I think it's a crap shoot if you get ND or TEC.
