1978 kz1000
didnt know if there was a solid market for these guys...found one with a parts bike that is probably going to need some work. guy said hasent run in a while. Not sure If I would keep it or sell...looking for a project for the winter.

are they strong bikes
alot of issues known with them

definately.........get it, keep it........STRONG bike........they were drag raced alot........still get alot of parts.....I've always wanted to get one........a huge forum for them is http://kzrider.com/

Those engines formed, along with the Big Suzook GS's, the bedrock of drag racing for 20 years!

A HUGE support / aftermarket culture for them.

Any issues those bikes may have had are long since had fixes made available.

As for a "restorable" bike?  I'm less sure on that.  Some particular models are more desirable, of course.  The original 900, sure; the Z-1R's, sure.  A plain KZ1000?  Probably not a real money-maker.  But a good choice for a fixer-upper or 'restified' bike?  Absolutely.

Just my two cents, and, as always, your mileage may vary.   :)

Only problems i know of are
(1) If "run in" too carefully the bores glaze and they will burn oil until rebored and run in thrashed properly

(2) a very few had main pins that wern't a tight enough fit and you could spin a cylinder getting 2 up 1 down 1 half way

no, theyre really not worth restoring at all, why not just send it to me here in south carolina so you dont have to look at it  :D
