I'm changing out my stock coils to Dyna 5K coils on my CB750K (w/ points).
Coils are on, no problem. I cut the plug wires to length and was about to start screwing on the new NGK caps when I started wondering: Is there a better way to attach the caps than just screwing them into the ends of the wires?
For example, is there a way to get at the contacts up inside the plug caps so I could solder/crimp or otherwise secure the connections? Seems like that would make a far better connection and be less likely to fail.

The little spike inside the cap is molded into the hard plastic.  I bring the center conductor wire out of the lead some and then fold it back.  I then hollow out a small hole to guide the spike down the middle of the lead.  Clean the spike thoroughly.  A very small amount of rtv on the outside of the lead as you shove it in will provide a moisture seal and prevent pulling out when the lead is handled. 

If you use aftermarket automotive boots instead of the Honda factory ones, they are secured more tightly.

The ngk caps need to be screwed on. Thats how they work best. NGK caps were oem equip on the 750s.

umm... what's RTV?

I was thinking maybe some dielectric grease on the screw tip might help make a better contact & keep out some crud. But it might turn to dirty goo over time...

Room Temperature Vulcanizing silicone rubber.  Which I would only use if you never wanted access to it again. (Seems unwise especially if you are using resistance wire instead of solid center core.)

You just need to keep weather off the mating metal parts and dielectric grease or silicone grease would work fine for that.

The stock type NGK caps a designed for solid core wires.   They won't provide a long lasting connection to resistance core wires.  Which do you have?

I have solid cores.

I'll just go w/ the dielectric grease since it's sitting on the bench next to the parts right now
