Gas cap pin - where to buy
« on: August 18, 2008, 09:18:59 PM »
Okay. I have tried for the last two evenings to pound out the pins for my gas cap and latch to no avail.  This is the only thing preventing me from getting started on repainting my tank.  I am now considering just drilling it out, but does anyone know where I can obtain a replacement?

I seem to recall that 'Hondaman' (member) was fabricating replacements and selling them. Not exact replicas (peened over pins) but rather small, slender screw/nut affairs.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

Hondaman does offer those kits, I purchased them a few months ago.  He includes a stainless trimmed screw/nut/washer, and an extra untrimmed screw.  Just send him a PM.

The cap pin is no longer carried.  You can buy the pin for the catch and they throw in the the new(er) locking style catch for $36.00, for a '74 750 anyway.

Hopper...here is what I did last winter to reuse mine.  I used a very thin punch but you have to be careful to not bend the bracket.  After a few hits I used a press to push it the rest of the way out.  When I put it back together I used a C-clamp with a BB on the end to crimp the edge again.  Good as new and saved my $36 bucks.

I used Hondaman's pins.  I couldn't find long enough stainless screws at my local hardware store.
