We used to have a pretty good Honda Shop here in town. Parts counter persons were attentive, and eager to get what you needed, whatever year the bike was. I did so much business with them, the parts manager offered a 15% discount, too.
About eight years ago, business was so good, they moved about a half mile down the street to a building at least 5 times the size of the oil one. Same great service for about a year, when it was sold to new owners. Over the next year, all the parts counter personnel were replaced with dullards. Who would tell you the parts were available before even trying to look it up. If you insisted, they would reluctantly glance at the computer screen to find they were wrong. Of course, the discount I had was rescinded.
I reasoned with the part manager that I could buy the same parts over the internet or phone for less than what he sold, PLUS I had to pay sales tax, and the delivery times weren't that different.
He said they didn't need to have discounts and were just cutting their own throats with that practice. And, that they had rescinded discounts on 95% of the prior customers that had them. Out and Out stated that the real money was in selling new bikes and servicing, rather than selling parts for old ones.
I found other sources for parts.
Two years later they filed for bankruptcy.
Six month after that they reopened. Exact same policies. But, they cut back on staff. The ones with knowledge, left for other jobs, and were replaced with newbies, that could operate their computer's search function only on rare occasions, and were quick to denigrate any bike older than 5 years, as "relics and dinosaurs".
I didn't return for more abuse and disappointment.
Last year, they closed their doors for the last time and sold all the service tools as part of the business liquidation.
I order parts through the local MC shop here in town now. It does take a bit longer ti get than the old Honda shop. But, I get a discount.
Cheers,
