We don't know when to give up us old farts.
How true.
Glad to see he recovered.
I started back riding this year after a 22 year break. Frankly, I was a little apprehensive that first day, since I'm one of those old farts. It really is like riding a bicycle, you never actaully forget. Sure you have to get "the feel" back, remember you don't have self-canceling signals and reaquire that unconcious gear counting ability you use to have. Interestingly, I have found that in addition to the just plain fun, getting back on the bike, and riding, is a good mental excersize. After years of commuting in a car, you get complacent. You're fairly well protected (sure you can still do stupid things), you have all sorts of conveniences on-board, but you can, and many folks do, drive a car about 50% engaged on their good days. On the bike, 50% doesn't cut it. You have to be on your toes constantly. Eyes checking every driveway, crossroad, etc. I guess some day I will get too old for it, I don't relish the thought. Maybe when it happens I try a trike.
