Topic: what is this relay/switch/thing-a-ma-bob

So I pulled a relay out thinking it was the turn signal flasher only to find out it wasn't after i broke it and threw it away (duh, I know)  i found this out when i went to start my bike and nothing happened.  i now have a paper clip in it's place in order for my bike to run, but now when i pull my clutch in, the neutral light comes on. 

i pulled it out from behind and to the right of the regulator where it is part of the mount for the regulator, it was black and about 3/4" by 1/2" with 2 prongs and a green/red and light green/red wire running out of it.  The wiring diagram says it's a diode, but somehow i don't think so. 

I've spent the last 2 nights scouring the internet looking at pictures trying to find out what it is, but to no avail. 

Oh, dear god, won't someone please help me?!?!?!?!?!?!

That is the starter safety interlock diode

any idea where i can find one

It sounds like the safety diode. It is part of the circuit that stops you operating the starter when the transmission is in gear unless you pull in the clutch.
