This weekend was the 3 day VJEMC Show and Swap in Seymour, WI. I brought my KO that I finished in May 2008. Many beautiful bikes there and this was the first time I ever took something to a show. I was very humbled to find out this morning they awarded me 1st Place for Peoples Choice and also a 1st Place for Japenese Concourse Judging. Needless to say with all the nice bikes there I felt honored. Very nice show area where the vintage show bikes are secured in a steel building out of the sun and weather. Police patrol the grounds nightly. Just a real quality run show by the VJEMC staff.

That is a well deserved award. My dad had a 70 and i barely remember riding on it. It was red too and he stored it over the winter in the volunteer fire department. So getting it out in the spring as a young kid I remember that a little. Every time I see your bike I think of the fire station and the red cb750.

Better get cracking on a large trophy case. If this is what you do in your first show, you'll likely need one.

Nice work Johnie. I've got a Candy Ruby Red '69 K0 too and in every picture I saw of yours I thought to myself, "Bugger, he's done a better job than me"

So that's a really nice bike and it makes it all worthwhile. Congratulations.

I agree with mystic, you need to work on the trophy case cause that bike will earn you a heap of them shiny things!!!!!!

Congratulations! It is very rewarding when you know your work is appreciated by the rest of the people.

I wrote in this very same forum what happened with my first outing in my restored CB350. It was just a classic bike run, though there was some awards in several categories. I always thought you had to apply, but seems that the organizers just go among the participants and decide who wins what -except obviously those prices that are objective such as oldest bike or participant of most age-. Well, long story short, by bike broke down -broken cam chain- and the organization van told me it was a shame, they had agreed my bike deserved the "best restored bike".

I didn't expect such a thing, and honest to God, it made my way back home in the assistance truck much more bearable....

For that reason I understand what you felt when you enter the rally to enjoy some other classic bikes and end up winning.... in no less than two categories. I would say get a big rack for your living room. So you can store the trophies.... and the bike!

Way to go, John! Congratulations. You earned it with all the time, effort, and I suspect a few $$'s

. Forget a trophy case, I think you need to line up a few more shows so you can build a trophy wall.

Great Job! Your restoration is more correct than the other John's parts bike that he claims is worth $50,000. The next shows could be with the AMCA in Davenport; Barber Museum in October; AMA Vintage Days at Mid-Ohio; AHRMA bike week at Road America next June; Dennis in Cascade, Wisconsin

Thanks Dennis. Actually, that other bike at the show is an original 1969 Sandcast with 1,100 miles on it owned by John DeBeck of Green Bay. It is true and correct in every way and is not a "restored" bike, but a true original not seeing many miles a year. His bike knocked me off my feet last year and I was in love with it. The only additions he did add to it was an electronic ignition and the case guards. I know I am taking my chances without the case guards, but I did want to keep my 1970 KO as true to original as possible. I still have the points and condensor ignition too.

John D's bike was made from parts, and some of them are from later models. Take a close look someday. Your brake caliper and master cylinder are very true to original. Maybe I'm partial to the red bikes. I had one in '69 and rode it to California and few other places. It eventually got replacement cases after a chain incident near Fort Wayne, Indiana. I now have a late numbered K0 but its missing several key pieces. I have plans to use it for a CR replica. You may be humble but you should also be proud........Dennis
