The horns of a dilemma..
« on: August 24, 2008, 06:10:58 AM »
My 750 is better, not great yet.

Waiting for installation I have: new pipes, new rear fender, new plugs, airfilter, spedo cable seal, front fork taper roler bearing kit, Dyna ignition kit, carb rebuild kit, (need to order the Sync Pro tool $94....)

I have the Local Chrome shop priced to chrome tail light bracket, grab bar, headlight mounts, front fender & all four new solid pipes.

spokes have been tuned, but they look like #$%*, need wire brush and a little paint.

Engine runs, but not right, Carbs out of sync and holes in pipes make it useless to adjust with out the new pipes.

Still need instrument faces (which require me to have brackets & housings Powder coated...), solid state electrics, Odyssey sealed battery (no more damaged right lower pipes!)

Sooo;

do I turn her into a pile of parts and expect to ride again in 45 days?

Or..

do I clean my face shield, fire her up and head to the twisty roads around Uwharrie National Forest...

Mark, I don't know what's the price or quality of chroming in your neck of the woods, but there's one area where it might actually make economic sense to get new bits rather than having the old ones chromed.
I have learnt over here of the universal bike restorers' equation;

          cheap chromers = sh!t chromers.

Have searched and chatted with a bunch of guys, This guy seems genuine, nice shop, but who knows???

I used to have a bunch of stuffed chromed for our machine tools, explained to the guy I would expect near perfection.  He certainly has it on his ready to deliver stuff.  Price is not cheap, approaches new.

Thanks for the input.

BTW decided to take both horns, rode 110 miles, now waiting for it to cool.
