1978 CB400A x 2 Is it a good idea
« on: August 22, 2008, 05:10:13 PM »
I found 2 CB400As near by and im going to look at them on sunday. He says they are complete but have been sitting for a while and nned to be restored. Worst case senario i should be able to get 1 running. He was asking 300 but is negotiable. Is it worth it? I could use it to get my girlfriend to ride or even better i could sell it after it runs and use the money for the rebuild of my 750F. What do you guys think? Any expireance with the 400A? Didnt find much about them good or bad. Just that you dont get to shift. Ill post pics when i get a look at them.

$300 for two bikes?  I would.  It would keep me busy for months probably...

As my friend says, Why not start only one project, when you can not finish 2?
No matter how fast or how far I rode, I couldn't leave her memory behind.

Small "starter" bikes are going up in value. If you can make one good running bike out of 2, you shouldn't have much trouble selling it for a profit. The auto transmission is almost bullet proof,so I wouldn't be concerned about that part of it. Everything else is pretty much typical Honda. If you haven't found it yet, check out this forum.

G`day ffj
I`m in aus so things are different here, i know a clear title for each bike is important over there so if your going to rebuild one or both i would check that. Your other choice is to buy the bikes and part them out, i used to be against this action but have realised that that is the only way my bike has got to the point it is and many other bikes wouldnt be on the road without folks doing that.
When you have two bikes to work with you can pick the best bits of both and put them together for one decent bike and the leftovers are "playtime" parts for another project.
The auto`s are something i have no experience with, but i can see them being an easy ride in any sort of city traffic.
Go for it mate, that could be a real fun project...
