comstar warped
« on: August 22, 2008, 05:31:43 PM »
I have an '81 650 with the black reverse comstars. My rear wheel is warped. Has anyone ever straightened one themselves? I have spares but they are in poor cosmetic condition (may also be warped, who knows?)

How do the professional shops that straighten wheels do it? I have access to a 100 ton press, Have dial indictors etc. (no balance machine though)

There has to more to the job than just pressing on the outer rim flange, I think the flange would just bend un-evenly and end up like a badly warped record.

wow ... I would love to find out what people say about this because I'm going to order new spokes for front wheel and the back and powder coat the rims, but that would be the last project that i would do last ...but wouldn't you do it like you would do a bike wheel ? to straiten it out , and if your talking about a mag wheel I'm not sure about how to do that ..maybe allot of heat and the press to keep it from moving ?

WB, there's a guy in North Alabama who straightens wheels.  I was going to call him to see if  he can straighten a Comstar.  If so, do you want me to let you know?

Obviously things have moved on but when they were new any attempt to straighten was a big NO NO, in Uk there was a firm that made flanges to bolt onto the hub with spoke holes to lace a "normal" rim on but by the time you had finished it wasn't much cheaper than a new comstar

A comstar warped??? what psycho maneuver did you do to do that?

How far is it out?

I personally would not trust one that was straightened.(a comstar anyways)

DO YOU REALLY WANT TO RIDE ON A QUESTIONABLE RIM?

If you have it straightened how secure wil you be with it?
