Went to the store yesterday and bought two pairs of 8' LED tubes of different wattage, 5500 lumens and 10,000 lumens. We're going to experiment with the brightness  8)
Today we'll try them out to decide which brightness we want. The new LED bulbs are GE glass tubes so I don't think they will sag but we'll be ready with the zip ties if they do. ;D

I also picked up a 4' LED "dual tube" fixture for over the solvent tank. I made the hanging mount during the summer from the stock KZ 1000 LTD handlebars.

I've been replacing the fluorescent tubes with LED tubes in my shop and the difference is amazing.

Kelly...lighting brightness is measured in Kelvin. It is the color temp scale, 2700K is warm and nice for inside the home and 5000K is cool and good for a shop.

I have fluorescents in my shop but changed the T10 bulbs to 6500K and it is nice and bright in there.

Here’s the work area in my shop with the two, twin tube 8’ flourescent fixtures converted to 120V LED tubes (the ballasts are gone). Fantastic improvement, notice the bench lights aren’t even turned on!

I did the same in my garage and kitchen.  Kept the fluorescent fixtures but bypassed the ballasts and put in LED tubes.  I have the bright whites in the garage and the warm light in the kitchen.  Saved me from having to replace any fixtures, and I'll probably never have to replace the tubes.

Today we got 2 out of 10 two tube 8' fixtures converted to LED. Tomorrow we'll do 3 more and be half way done. I used GE LED tubes that are glass and they don't sag.

Kelly….. good so far?

Yeah good so far. I had a plumbing emergency I had to take care of. The seal on the bottom of the upstairs tub failed and made a water bubble on the dining room wall.

We have two fixtures changed over and it's much brighter in that corner. By the end of today we'll be half done with the 5 fixtures on the door side all changed over to the LED tubes.

We'll do the other row of 5 fixtures when I can get more tubes. In total the change to LED's will cost $500. The fluorescent tubes cost $120 per case and I was due to buy another case. With fluorescent tubes lasting 4 to 6 months l can go through 1 1/2 cases a year. That's the price of 3 pairs of the good LED tubes. Between the LED,s long life and the power savings the conversion should pay for itself in two years.

I did my car trailer and then the back garage with the direct wire 4' GE LED's. So far, they have performed perfectly. A local scrap yard took the old ballasts.

Same here, I can drop off the old tubes and ballasts at the recycle place at the dump. With just one row of five 8' two tube fixtures done it's already way brighter than before. Might need sunglasses indoors when we're done. 8)
