If he was closer I'd haul it off (no charge) ..... been thinking about an S10 for a while....... build nasty 400 smallblock - leave 4 pistons out for a 3.3l V4 (it's a 4 cyl. class)........ go win some races!

Yeehaw!!!

the s 10 is my drag truck rebuild i bought a different on as a rolling chassis dropped in my dyno'd 531hp and 489 ft lbs 406 small block in it and first launch the ladder bar brackets broke a weld and sent it into the gaurd rail. i used to work in a race car gfab shop and wanted to save time buy buying a complete rolling chassis... but it cost me 4000 for the chassis  that got mangled now i have about 2000 in this one and a ways to go still things have been put on hold due to my dads condition i have been spening a lot of time up north at his place.. i wanted to run this season but both our cars are out this year also have a 401 powerded gremlin i helped biuld that ran 9.90's but the external oil pump blew covered the track with oil and sent terry into the wall at 140mph and the cage held

here's a few i snapped while i was procrastinating... been working on Maddog's 81 cb650, parting out the 74 350f, and looking longingly at my baby 73 350f waiting till tonight when we get to accompany each other to the "first thursday" Rusted Nuts of Denver meet.   ;D

all right, its been less than 24 hours and i feel like i have a new shop!  reorganized, cleaned up and snapped away.  here's the answer...

overall, much better flow  8)

the engine building station...

the reading room...

a nice little parts washing station, right next to the door to be moved outdoors when in use... just a simple basin i found in someone's trash, no drain hole, which is kinda nice when you don't want to drain caustic cleaners, placed in the large box my air compressor came in.

finally, a centrally located workbench w/ tools nearby

now, back to work!...

Nice, wish I had a couch in my workspace :)

I guess the "curving road" road sign is so that you can find your way between all the stuff?  ;)

Dang Heffay! A couch?! This thread needs to get "Jealous type people stay away" put in the title, because I'm going to cry I'm so jealous  :'(  :'(  ;)

There are some nice! shops posted here. Looks good everyone.

PS: Kghost........ thats just sick! and all those CB's are so sexy.

I'll post some pics when I pull the cars out of my garage later one (totally sucks having to pull the car out every time, and then I have a old Firebird 400 thats always sitting there so it's basically a one car garage now. Im ok with it but I wish I had a work bench out there.

What do you guys use on your work bench tops? I have plain non treated wood, in my wood shop. But don't think that will cut it for my garage which will probably end up getting covered in oil and potentially something like gas. I also really want to keep it as cheap as possible.

BTW here's some pics:

This is where the simple work bench is going in tomorrow:

I use ply with a fibreglass layer on both sides, we use it at work for the barn doors on trucks,
The doors rot out at the bottom its easier to replace the whole door than patch the bottom, so i grabbed a couple of old doors and cut them to benchtop sizes.
Its perfectly flat, non absorbant, very hard and resiliant and doesnt catch if you have to slide something heavy on it (like an engine).
See if you can find a truck repair shop near you and see what they have in their rubbish pile

Interesting Troppo, sounds like a very good and thrifty solution. I'll see what I can find, I know of a few truck repair shops round here.

Mucho Thanks.

i actually prefer plain old wood.  means i can drill thru it, hammer it, draw on it, write on it, flip it over in a fury, etc.
w/ the business that i do it is not hard to come by old doors... that's what i use w/ a set of sawhorses, when the door dies, i get another one.

I got old waterbed frames at yard sales and such. 2X10 clear pine, stained and lacquered.  8) 8)

For wet oily work, one bench is topped with a 3'X7' section of the bed floor cut from a dead Mazda pickup. This one sits at a slight angle so that fluids drain off into a channel, then to a bucket.

I have one very similar to yours strangedaze, but the top is a particle board laminate screwed down.  Oils and other liquids pool on it if they spill, wipe up pretty easy.  It's white, so misplaced o-rings, bolts, etc. show up pretty easily. Plus, when it gets too nasty I can easily unscrew it and replace it.  It's still wood, so I can still drill and cut on materials on it w/o worrying about it.

These are picsof the den when I'd just finished insulating, rewiring (mate) and re-inforcing the wooden floor.

I can assure you it does NOT look this pristine now, a year later.

I got some wiring done, and have started on insulation.

Motivation has been an issue lately, for some odd reason.

What shop?

I cleaned the garage a bit but there's still not much room to work.

I cannot tell.... is that an 80 or an 800 Scout? I'm assuming it's an 800 b/c of the non-fold windshield... but I had an 80 that didn't fold so....

Lots of nice shops there guys...

Heffay that's a good area. Should put that room design software to work for yourself.

As soon as I can find pics of my old shop I'll post em.
