4 years ago I built a 10'x11' room in my friend's barn basement that he rents out bays for car storage so I had a place to store my K5 in while I wintered in San Diego. It worked well while I was away but last winter I stayed in here in NH, so I had to stuff my K5 and my Goldwing in there along with my other parts and pieces on the shelves.
This past April I got a call from a friend of 4 years asking if I'd be interested in half a dozen 750 carcasses and an 836 motor from a chopper I had expressed interest in as he was preparing to move west. So we struck up a deal and loaded them on a trailer....now where to keep them... so I asked my other friend where my storeroom was if I could rent the rest of the bay in front of the storeroom and build a wall to partition it off. He even had a couple of used garage doors to use so I only had to frame up about 7' of wall between the door panels, where I put in a 32" man door so I don't have to enter through the existing garage door, saving loosing lots of heat over the winter.(I just put the man door in today). I bought a bunch of used 2'x8'x4" thick Styrofoam panels a few weeks ago to insulate the wall with.
So now I have 11'x36' including the storeroom.
I spent the summer getting deals on a couple lifts, got the Kendon first and then the Harbour Freight a couple weeks later. I worked off of a folding table for the summer until I scored a 4' Craftsman bench cabinet and the pieces of a workbench I took out of another friend's garage a couple weeks ago that is moving and downsizing.
This past week I've been building the workbench and moved a 4' cabinet to the door wall for another bench, put up shelves I built along with putting the man door in place and added a couple more lights. Next up is moving stuff in the storeroom to insulate that wall and make room for the K5 to go in for the winter while I work on the project bikes to sell one or 2 in the spring if it all happens, Lord willing and the creek don't rise.....
I think I have a pellet stove lined up to get to fend off the winter cold, for now just have been using a couple electric heaters.
