I'm glad you finally got to work on the shop again. 

The Dr that did my fiducial markers missed on two of them. It pushes my final treatment back to August 22nd. So Jonesy and I are going to squeeze rides in-between appointments.
Today we pulled the 82' CB 900F carbs to fix a bad fuel tube o-ring. We finished up and fired it up, seems we need to get some bigger slow jets because of the new black ceramic Delkevik pipe.

With some time left I hopped on the tractor and pulled the next project from out behind the shop.
An 03' Honda TRX 350 Rancher that my long distance riding buddy gave me. His Mom bought it new for him and he couldn't stand watching his eldest son destroy it anymore. He wants me to fix it for my son.

Today was super hot and humid again. Went down to the shop and cut a 18.75” X 12.5” hole through the shop wall and finally installed a small air conditioner I’ve kept aside since we moved here full time. Still have to do lots of cleanup and a few small trim bits, but it should be cooler when I go down there later! Pics then.

Yeah, humidity and mosquitoes are kryptonite for me... Hate them both with a passion. That's a big reason I live in the dry desert...dry heat is so much more comfortable than humid heat. It is strange in the winter though, you either acclimated to the heat or your tolerance for the cold is severely affected... Heck, when I lived in Ohio I could sit on a tarp in the snow outside wearing some insulated Carhartt bib overalls and a old goose down coat for hours working on ta car or the like... basically sitting in the snow, coming in once every 90 minutes to 2 hours  for about 15-20 min to use restroom and get something to drink.

It works a treat! Shop was below 70F when I went back down. I need to pull it out and get it draining properly out the back (dirt floor in the shed portion, so not a problem), I can hear it gurgling inside and nothing is leaking out. It’s pushing out 58F air on “low cool” and the shop was pleasant. I put the oscillating fan I use to cool engines when tuning down at the end of the shop and the whole place was lovely. Did the cleanup and called it a day!

Note the yellow colour; that unit was in my mother in law’s apartment for a few months. Guess who smoked a pack a day? Fortunately I scrubbed the filter and it doesn’t stink. Go figure? I should have done this years ago.

Lots of white plastics will oxidize age into yellow cast like that, doesn't necessarily reflect being in smoking environments. Apples & old CRT monitors have this issue and lots of refrigerator handled have that issue too. Hydrogen peroxide treatments with strong hydrogen peroxide solution can bleach them white again...

Glad the AC unit is doing the job, definitely want to get it pitched correctly to keep it from developing mildew issues...

Yes. I need to install a “crosser” under it in the wall and repair the vapour barrier. Will pull it out tomorrow and pull the cover. Full clean out and inspection, lube etc. It has no drains, so I suspect it’s suppose to blow dry itself. That will get modified…..

I finished up by framing the interior of the “hole” with 2” X 8” lumber. Repaired the vapour barrier and insulation, packed around the opening. Removed all the covers on the AC unit and gave a good cleaning. The back end of the undertray had no drain holes. I’m guessing the condenser fan is suppose to pull air across and help it evaporate? Drilled 1/2” holes in both back corners. It hangs out into the barn (gravel floor) so drainage is no issue. Added a strip of lumber across the inside framing and a few screws to stop the “rattles”. On “Low Cool” it’s pushing out 55F air and the shop is just perfect. I may move in!

 That frame has been raked a few degrees and the under-tank tubes are arched up like a 750A except the K tank still fits. The rocker cover can come off in the frame.

 I have a deep channel unistrut attached to the ceiling with another unistrut in the attic over the trusses attached with carriage bolts. They make a thousand lb. load trolley that fits into the strut and I have a half ton chain fall on that.
 I don't have engines on them but they roll on the shelf once they are up there.

Shop photos are my favorite. Why has this section dried up……

Today I replaced another stretch of fluorescent lighting in my shop. Two X eight foot fixture, each one had two (double pin) 4’ lamps. Pulled the ballasts and hard wired 120V directly to the ends and installed the 4’ LED’s. Fairly easy job, see instructions attached.

Wow. Forgot to take a picture, but the “working end” of my shop is now done. My old tubes were ancient, so had lost much of their strength. It seems 2X brighter now! Will take some snaps next time……

 My old buddy Tom's drag bike on the shelf. He said NHRA asked him if he was willing to tear down for a national record. He declined. Reportedly, he roller started it with a set of grocery store conveyer rollers and his van to turn it.

 Sacrifices to the Gods of Speed
  The main cap is broken into 3 pieces out of our 383 small block chevy it went 7.92 on spray 8.03 natural at 172 mph. It never let go it just slowed a couple tenths.

  The Briggs  and Stratton let go on friday night of the World Series of Drag Racing.
  We were in the final and made the first pass after the national anthem on Friday night at the big show.
  Maybe in front of 20-30,000 people and the first passes under the new Musco lighting. My daughter left second and already caught the other car when the hard as glass stock briggs crankcase let go sending sparkles into the air.
  The cylinder stuck on the piston but the rod and crank held, the top of the engine was thrashing back and forth. The header went through the deflector plate but just cut a C in it. All of the pros signed it the next day, most of them were watching because they hadn't seen Jr. Dragsters before.

 In the above pic, the rectangle is the burst panel out of a Top Alcohol dragster. It used too much fuel on the pit warm-up but no one listened to me. The main jet in the barrel valve had fallen through and blocked the return. The car went lean at 1,000' and popped the blower off.
 Upper left is a barely used moroso billet oil pump from out 567" big block, the Crane roller lifters spit out needles and they fit perfectly through the screen on the pick-up, the jagged timing chain also ate some needles. The gears are from the next time when the roller lifters took a poo. We were able to save the body that time.
  The holy piston is out of Tom Hoovers Funnycar, the rod and piston were from Tim Wilkersons Funnycar.

Don….. love the expensive “Shrapnel” collection. I used to have one myself, but a few years ago I did a scrap run and threw it all in. Still regret that brain fart!

I sold my old Logan, made some space in the shop. 

It got bought by company that tests roads and runways; I never knew it's a thing.  The guy who came to pick it up was from France, moved to USA in 1964 after he finished military service in Algeria, now he makes living as machinist and must be pushing 80 if he is a year.

But the shop space will not be empty long, we got a new frame for my CJ7 and my son will be building it frame up over the winter.
