350 Project Bike
« on: September 03, 2008, 05:03:31 PM »
Like all projects I start, this one seems to take too long.  I was really hoping to get her on the road before the end of the season.  I'm getting closer, but with kids and other family commitments, it's moving really slow.  Thought I would share with all a picture how she's sitting today.

So far, I've finished up detailing the engine, wheels, seat, tank, battery box and frame modifications.  I now need to get her apart and start getting off to powdercoat/paint and get cracking on carb rebuild.

I can see the finish line soon.

I like the tank. Your wheels are pretty well polished too. Good luck with the project!

The bike is looking great!  I can't wait until I can, at least get to that stage on my own cb350f.

I was wondering what tank was sitting on your bike, and how much modification did it take to install it?

Those Avons look really good.  Those frame mods are very nice.  I thought about adding the loop on the rear, but got lazy.  Those trees look super shiny too!

Yes.  This is the Benelli Mojave tank.  I've welded frame mounts in the tunnel, as well as welded a plate to finish up the rear.  It really wasn't too bad to sort out a mount.  For badges, I'll be using the new CBR1000RR's.  Frame is at the powdercoater now.  I'll have plenty of new shots posted once all is back.  Click on pics:

Dang you guys weld tanks, that scares me! :o
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

And you call yourself a welder!!!!!!! ;)
As long as you have washed it out thoroughly, and then purged it really well (I use the exhaust from my car for about 5 minutes, gas is inert and warm making sure you have all fumes and residue cleaned out or dead) you should be pretty safe.
You could mig it but tig is always better for tanks.

Another option is to keep it hooked up to your exhaust or some inert gas while you're welding so you know there's no oxygen in there.

I really like that tank though, looking forward to how this progresses.
