the strangest vehicle/engine combination i've ever seen
« on: August 23, 2008, 10:10:20 AM »
went this morning to pick up some parts for the saturn and this guy has15 acres of junk and project cars. his daily ride, a 1973 chevy 1/4 ton pickup has a v-12 jag motor from an xjs. the story behind that is he did a v-8 conversion for someone and they didnt want the motor back, with only 36k on it. scott got bored one weekend and decided to try putting the v-12 into his truck. the front end has been converted to tilt forward, motor is bolted up to a th-400 trans. sounds sweet through the 70's styled sidepipes.

Jag V12 motorcycle: http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/30/jagged-edge-twin-turbo-5-3-l-v12-i-motorcycle-i/

I've worked with Jaguars a lot over the years, and the V12 is actually quite an amazing engine if you fix all the electrical/ignition issues.  The straight-six XK engine was also one of the best engines ever made.  There was even an XK in the Museum of Modern Art.  That unit was built by a shop I frequented, Motorcraft Ltd., in Rutherford, NJ.

Damned nationalized Jaguar (BMC) screwed up even the XK engine with overused tooling making for loose tolerances towards the later years.

One of my high school buddies got hold of a Datsun 510 where some psycho had grafted a 455 Olds and Toronado transaxle into the a$$ end of it.  :o
It might have lasted longer if the brakes weren't all hooked up to the Datsun's clutch master cylinder......... ???

I'm guessing the stock engine was kept just to try to keep the front tires on the ground?  :P

Actually if i remember right..it was used to move the car around for driving on the street when the owner didnt want to light the fuse on the 455.

I missed out on an EBay auction for a 1973 Jaguar XJ12, it was only a little "untidy", but the owner had receipts for 2500 bucks spent on an engine rebuild 5 years ago just before he parked it in his garage where it sat until he sold the house and had to get rid of it.

In the end it only went for 900 bucks, but I'd just bought another car and had no room for the Jag. Oh well..............  ::)
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

i wish i could remember the name of the car but i saw this in a magazine. the car was one of those tiny little cars that looks like some put a chevy bel-air in a compactor. anyways, this tiny thing had a 454 in it. also saw another one were a guy put twin turbos on his camper. when i worked at chevy, some guy brought in his infinity Q45??? with a 400 in it
