750 spEEdo & tACh repair.
« on: September 14, 2008, 09:47:10 AM »
Picked up some early speedo and tach cores..

am thinking it would be cool to build a set to use that have the jewels in them, & use the 72 & down top triple tree.

anyone had any luck straightening out the black metal top housings??.. or is there a supply? I can make a die to do this but maybe it is not worth the effort?.. or maybe other need them done..

btw i picked up a K0 tach with an excellent face and needle, plastic housing is bad and metal lower frame, needs some work, has the lght rubbers and sockets..

Theres a heap of posts on rebuilding the clocks mate, a couple of different methods of opening them (i think thats what you were asking here

  )
Maybe a couple of pics explaining what you need help with would make it easier.
Cheers mate

I cant post pics.

Steel case that hold the glass on and keeps dirt out.. painted black..they get dented, sometimes breaking the glass.

Has anyone built tools to straighten these, and re round them??
if not perhaps these tools should be built..let me know of there is any interest.

It wouldnt be too hard mate, get some pipe or round stock the right diameter, cut a 1/4 section of it, weld it to a piece of RHS or flat stock so you can mount it in a vice and you have a dolly to use with light hammer.
Just a case of carefully raising the low spots.
Hard to explain (for me anyway) the right technique, look at a couple of books on basic panel beating for a better explaination.
Hope this was some help mate
Cheers

I will try to make it more clear.

If I made up dies to fix these, would others need this service? I dont need help making the dies and can do them inhouse.

But I dont want to bother if someone on here already does this.

I have 10 good ones laying around and would fill and repaint if I did need one.  I guess that places me in the no interest, no need, category.
