Fugitive from the DOHC and OHV groups
« on: August 25, 2008, 01:06:59 PM »
Hello All -

I'm certainly pleased to be here  ;D

I'd been slowly accumulating the bikes I couldn't afford during my mis-spent youth - a BSA Rocket 3 and a '79 CBX up until last week - when my Darling Wife (to my complete surprise!) expressed an interest in actually riding her own machine. A quick search of the classifieds turned up a SOHC4, one of the bikes which had always been high on my list - in this case a CB550K4 - which we decided would be perfect for her. Needs a little cosmetic work (so I'll wait with the pictures until I'm finished polishing), but seems mechanically sound. I'm almost as excited about it as she is!

Back in the day (1972), I used to work for Honda of Ottawa and I remember being impressed by the CB500 when it first came out, and having just ridden our new acquisition home from Halifax I remember why I thought it was such a cool bike. Doesn't create the adrenalin rush of the CBX, or have the bottom-end grunt of the BSA, but its a little jewel - and my Honey is quite pleased  ;)

I'm looking forward to finding my way around the site, and getting to know the members. I'm already a member of the ICOA forum and Triples Online, so no doubt I'll be spending far too much time at the computer. Ah, well, winter's coming - and apart from polishing beaucoup aluminum alloy, there's little enough to do here in the frozen north  ::)

Best regards to all,
Brian

The 500-550 doesn't get angry til you got at least 5000 RPM on the clock.  If you want to scoot, use the trans to get it up there.  And remember, 9000 RPM is normal for this machine.

Can't imagine why anyone wouldn't enjoy riding one of these.  ;D

Welcome :)

Needs a little cosmetic work (so I'll wait with the pictures until I'm finished polishing)

I think we enjoy in-progress pics just as much as finished-project pics, so post away!  :)

You mean that there are other bike sites? ;-)

Welcome. I'm sure your wife is going to enjoy it.

I'm sure she will too, if she can get it away from me - I'm having too much fun out in the twisties! And TwoTired is right - it's a different machine with more than 5000 rpm on the clock and a rapidly approaching 90 degree bend.   :o

Thanks for all the good tidings. See you around  ;D

Brian
