new to all this
« on: August 21, 2008, 02:11:11 PM »
Hello every one I'm Dave 25 and live in the UK. I know a bit about bikes but not as much as i need to i currently own a 1979 CB650z (restoration project) and another CB650 for spares.

I also own another couple of Honda's a 1983 VF400f and a 1976 C70 but they don't give me problems its just the CB.
Anyway the CB is driving me mad so mad I'm loosing hair and going grey.

Welcome to thee club mate.
These old bikes have a few quirks that can cause you all sorts of headaches but you came to the right place to find out what you need to know.
One more thing, we just love pics here ;)

Hi Dave.

Wander over to www.honda-sohc.co.uk and chat with the UK guys. You'll notice the site looks familiar - it's because we use the same forum software. We're not related (other than that most of our members are also members here)

Hello Dave and welcome. I'm Rob from Sussex. You've come to the right place for advice and info. I personally find this forum much more active than the uk sohc-4 forum so I usually post my pleas for help here and they are usually quickly responded to. As the other guys have already said we love pictures here.

Enjoy

Welcome.  You can attach a pic to a reply (lower left corner) or better is to get yourself an account on Photobucket (free), load the pics there and paste URL links in your reply's here.  It is fairly simple.

I'm new on here.  I see everyone likes pics so I promise they're coming soon.  Today I just bought my first motorcycle...1976 Honda CB550 four!  Close to 30,000 miles, hasn't ran for a few years.  Pretty excited to get working on it but, I've never worked on a motorcycle before.  I plan on changing the battery & air cleaner first and seeing if maybe it'll start.  Heard that Clymers is a really good motorcycle repair manual...where's the cheapest place to pick one up?  Any helpful hints?  Where can i find a replacement air filter?

Dave/dids: there's a FAQ on how to post pictures and movies on the site. It's here

Adam: try your local Honda dealer for the air filter. If not, there are plenty of on-line places that sell them (there's a FAQ for that too!)
