Looking For Info On a 1930s Atlas Metal Turning Lathe
« on: August 27, 2008, 07:09:42 PM »

I thought that the lathe my Granddad had bought, was late 40's-early 50's. Then I talked to my Dad tonight and he said that the lathe was bought while he was in school. :o Man, that sucker has some SERIOUS age to it! :o It has to be a 1930's model. Dad says that he has the manual on it and told me where it should be. In the mean time, it anyone has any info on these or on where I could find out anything, I'd sure appreciate it. Supposed to be all kinds of adapters and attachments and such for it too! I remember hearing Granddad say that they could set it up to cut gears with it, among lots of other things they could do with it. Now that I've mentioned this lathe, I'm gonna have to keep an eye out for Mark (HondaMan), cause he's just liable to want to check this one out. :)

Appreciate ANY info on this and, as soon as I find anyhing out about it, I'll post it. ;)

Go on line and check. There is tons of stuff for old South Bends, Logan (which I own) etc. Atlas was a popular brand too.

   Thanks Mike,
I have done a little, but I feel like I need to locate some kind of data plate to find the model and serial number, to help nail down the year model and such. Sure hopw that manual is where it's supposed to be.

                                   Take care, Bill ;)

Sam. ;)

Thanks Sam, that WAS truly interesting. I haven't found one that is like ours yet. Gotta figure out where the data plate is. Probably should join up and discuss it on there. Going back down Friday, maybe I can locate more info then.

                             Thanks again Sam,  Bill ;)

Put a tarp over the machine and back away! If you start fussing with the lathe and hanging around on basement-machinist forums, the bikes aren't going to get fixed. ;) ;D

A quick google search: ' logan 200 lathe ' turned(no pun intended) up a lot of info that I found interesting, as well as a site that you might get something out of: http://www.lathes.co.uk/atlas/index.html

The Atlas site needs some help. http://www.atlas-press.com/index.htm

Happy trails.
