thanks guys! i picked up the frame, wheels, swingarm, etc. on monday. the powdercoat looks incredible. got the engine in the frame monday night, and dropped the wheels off to be trued and new bridgestones mounted. i should have the body/paint and wheels back by friday, and some good pics after that. i was excited to get started, so i didn't take many pictures. i'll get some stuff posted friday or saturday.

ok - at last some progress to report. here's a pic of the frame with engine installed:

got the parts back from paint, and i have to say that i'm impressed. i was going to go silver, but i decided at the last minute to change after seeing this green on a honda element in a parking lot. it's 'galapagos green metallic'. the pics don't do it justice - it looks awesome in person, and has just the right pearl/metallic in it. let me know what you think of the color - i like it because it's unique.

side cover:

carpy's seat in green:

i also picked up my wheels today. i love the black look with the chrome spokes. new bridgestone BT45's:

so now that i have all of this back.... i go out of town this weekend. i'll try to get some piecemeal work done after hours this week, but the bulk of the work will have to wait until next weekend. i'm hoping to get it mostly together with a few solid days spent on it.

Looking very nice!  I just started my own 75 CB750F project so will be keeping a close eye on this one.  I like the green...have you thought about maybe some black pin striping?  I think a classic outline would look killer.  What tires are those?

thanks. yes, i've been thinking that a nice black stripe would look very cool. i have some black 'honda' decals in a norton script that i got from carpy that will be going on the tank. the tires are bridgestone BT45 battleax. i've heard good things about them, and they look the part.

well, after being away from the bike for a bit, i was happy to dig into it again this weeked. i think i made some great progress.

got the triple trees, forks and swingarm mounted up:

when i got the clip ons installed, i saw that they hit the tank. so after some searching on the board, i drilled and tapped some screws in the stop to limit the travel. not the best job, but it works.

got the wheels mounted up, and it looks like we have a roller!

i took a break from the chassis and wrapped the exhaust with header wrap. the wrapping went ok, and i thinks it looks fine. i'm not really happy with the stainless ties i got, so i think i'm going to safety wire it instead for a cleaner look. i'm planning to put a baffle in the collector and finish it with a chrome tip, like carpy's exhaust.

here's a shot of all of the painted bodywork:

here's the crappy part of the project - the electrical. i'm terrible at this stuff, and i was scared of creating a mess - which i promptly did:

i spent the better part of today sorting it out after it didn't work the first time. basically tore the whole thing apart and started over. not sure if everything works, but all the lights and the starter work, so i figure i'll diagnose later if problems surface.

and just for fun, i mocked up the tank, side cover, and tail piece, just to get a feeling of how it's going to look. not too shabby if i do say so myself:

next up this week - finishing the exhaust, the brakes, and hopefully starting her up!

Great job!  That is going to be one hot looking ride.  Are you doing all the electrical from scratch and not using a stock harness?

thanks! it's the stock harness. but the problem was that the PO hacked into it quite a bit for some accessories, so it was tough to figure out. a ton of electrical tape, solder, and different colored wires.

Look'n GREAT.  I have a 750F and a Carpy seat as well.  How do you plan to mount your seat.  I noticed from your pics that you kept the hinge mount and the seat lock.  Are you going to incorporate those in the mounting or do something else?  I'm leaning toward removing the hinge and lock and then going from there.  Keep up the great work and upload more photos! ;D
Here today, gone tomorrow.  Make the most of today!

thanks for all the positive comments!

ima - i actually removed the hinge mount last night after it interfered with the seat. i don't think the seat lock will interfere, but i have some measuring to do. i've seen two options suggested for mounting the seats - to use the bolt holes for the battery tray and some longer bolts, or to use heavy duty velcro. i have to be honest, the velcro intrigues me (the industrial strength option, at any rate), so i may try that before i drill into the seat.

hopefully i'll get a chance to figure it out this week. i'll keep you posted...

Wow, that color doesn't look too bad, even though I prefer the brighter colors.  It's very subtle.

well, back at it this weekend. i got the exhaust wrap safety wired up, and installed the baffle. i got it at dennis kirk for $20.

i wrapped some MSR exhaust packing around it, and slipped it into the collector. i topped it off with a 9" chrome tip. i don't have a welder, so i just drilled two holes where the mounting screws were on the chrome tip so the screws are into the collector itself. don't think it's going anywhere - seems pretty solid.

i'm still having trouble with the electrical - headlight, neutral indicator light, bright headlight indicator, etc. i also looked it up, and nevada requires turn signals, so i had to dig back into the harness (i was going to run without them). after another 4 hours, i got the headlight, bright indicator, and turn signals working. the neutral indicator is causing me grief, and the tail light is a tricky one.

it's the round glass unit from carpy, and it's really cool. problem is, it has two wires, and the stock harness has three - one for ground, one for power, and one for the brake switch. i didn't have time to monkey with it tonight, but someone on the board suggested hooking the ground to the frame, and the brake switch and running light to the two leads. i'm hopeful that it will work.

i got all of the levers installed, the carbs and airbox on, and a bunch of misc. stuff. this morning i actually got to fire it up! i was elated. the exhaust sounds great - raspy, but not annoying. the fuel/air mixture seems to be off - it's not idling very well, and the throttle response if off. looks like i'll be working on the jetting this next week.

here are some shots with the way it is now, for your viewing pleasure (i used the good camera this time). i'll be honest - i hate the turn signals, and i will probably remove them after i register the bike.

obviously, i need new shorter cables, and the front caliper. mine is seized, so i'm looking for a cheap replacement. i need to install the chain, bleed the brakes, etc. it's getting pretty close now...

I like the nose art idea.  Your bike has the "I mean business" look of a military war plane.  To run with Chrislib's "nose art" suggestion...  I took the liberty of mocking up some nose art pics of your bike:

Does the brake light have one of two filaments? I wonder if it is just a tail light and not a "Brake light" per say.

the light does have two filaments - one bright, and one a bit dimmer for running lights. i can tell when i hook the different ones up. hopefully i'll get a chance to try something out tonight.
