Overtightened mixture screws... results/fix?
« on: August 25, 2008, 10:09:45 AM »
So I'm here at work thinking about carbs a lot on my 75' CB550K1 and while I'm going through all possiblities in my head I recall people warning not to tighten down the idle mixture screws too much.  As I have been careful not to do it but I'm wondering if the PO may have possibly done this and how would I be able to tell?

What would the symptoms be?

Pictures would be awesome.

The problem can be dire on the PD carbs, as the adjustment screws have a very pointed taper.  The 022A carbs that you have are different.  The air screws are hollowed tipped and the taper isn't that shallow.  Still, a gorilla could cause some needle/seat distortion.

The adjust screws restrict the air from the air jet.  Distortions from over tightening could change the air screw setting equality among he 4 carbs.  Meaning: the equivalent flow setting on one carb would be a different number of turn for other carbs.

Why do you think your screws were were over tightened?  Pictures would be awesome.
