looking for floats specks, setting for needle valve clip (mine is 2nd from top and not running right) bike was sitting for 25 years and I went though everything ( cleaned tank, rebuild carbs, new plugs, ele. ing.,ect ) I don't have history of bike but i belived some body fooled with needle valves. any info would be great.when I first got bike running low rpm was great 1000rpm to 4200rpm, 4200rm to 5200rpm had a rattaing noise and power was so so, 5200rpm to 8700rpm was ok but not there. I moved the needle valve clip to the center grove and 4200rpm to 10000rpm is great now but low end is not and now plugs are fouling. HELP Tony. (also how much oil goes in the forks)

The float levels should be set at 22mm and forks should get 5.4 ounces of  sae 10w30. I can't find the location of the clip on the needle. You will have to experiment with this setting.  Hope this helps

Try  http://www.motorcycleproject.com/motorcycle/text/specs.html

It's about the best source of info I could find. I don't know if they count the jet needle (JN ) from the top or bottom ???.

There is a chart in the carb FAQ that list carb spec.  77 CB550 F had the Needle clipped in the 2nd groove from the top (non-pointy end).  Float height is 22mm.  It should also have # 98 Mains.
This works well with the stock air filter and exhaust.

My Owner's manual for the 77 F states that each fork takes 4.8-4.9 Oz (145-150cc) of ATF upon refill.  However, I like to use fork oil in either 10wt or 15wt for a bit firmer front end.
