Master Cylinder Upgrade
« on: September 10, 2005, 07:05:55 AM »
Does anyone have any recommendations on replacing the original master cylinder on a '75 CB400f with a more current model master cylinder?  If anyone has performed this mod, did you notice an improvement in braking power?

Thanks!
Scott

A friend of mine installed a Magura MC on his 73 CB750 with good results.  He had a slight improvement in braking power but the biggest improvement was in lever feel.  The OEM MC has a rather wooden feel to it whereas his Magura does not.  You can get Magura MC's at Mike's XS650.

My 550 had a yamaha cylinder on it when i bought it. Couldn't tell you if it improved the breaks but the bike does stop eventually. ;D

I'm thinking of gettin one of those chrome covers so i don't have to look at the Yamaha one. Anyone know where you can get them?

I use a 92' Yamaha 900 brake master cylinder.Actually, the Honda handlebars and brake sytem screw are standard metric size.Virtually you can use any Japanese master cylinder.Even a 2005 model can fit!

Great, thanks all for the info!  May look into the Nissin 14mm unless someone out there has another working m/c their willing to part with...  ;)

hell just ebay it. You can get a used one that will work fine. You may need to rebuild it but that is still cheaper than a new master in most cases.
It may be different for the metric "cruisers" but I think all metric bikes have 7/8 inch handle bars.
