Air box rubbers 1978 cb550K
« on: August 27, 2008, 09:22:57 AM »
I've run into a little problem(#1098 to be exact)with my 3 PO 1978 CB55K.
I only have 3 of the rubbers that join the carbs to the air box and the replacement part sites I've been to will only sell the lower air box and rubbers as a single unit.Does anyone have or know of a source for these rubbers? Yes I am watching Ebay, but taht could take forever.
thanks

You have to order 4.  Lots cheaper than the other route.

The 77 and 78 air box couplers are unique for the 550Ks PD carbs.  Prior years won't fit correctly.  And, nobody makes them, anymore.  Used is the only way to obtain them.   ...Or, make your own? ::)

You need an inner or an outer?

CAREFUL the DS ones only fit 500 and 550 up to 76 unless he has had the later ones made in
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

The DSS website only lists the "Inlet manifold rubber" for the K3.  There is no picture.  But, pretty sure this is the coupler between carb and manifold, not carb to air box.

They have them. Shoot them an email to be sure you get the right thing. I was quoted 18 GBP per when I checked last

Well, please post a follow up when you get the parts and verify they fit properly, OK?

I've emailed DSS and asked them to verify the rubbers fit the 78 550K.When I get a reply I'll post the answer,I'd really like my build to be as original as possible and avoid pods tho' I know a lot of people have gone the pod route simply because original air box parts are so hard to find.
Thanks

I've received a reply from DSS and it is as follows:
Hello

Thank you for your e-mail.

These rubbers were only sold as part of the air chamber, which unfortunately is no longer available.

Well, there it is,guess I'll watch Ebay, check out the junkyards and order some pods....let the games begin:)
