My Favorite Ride
« on: August 30, 2008, 06:15:11 PM »
I take this ride at least once a week. I found this video which was shot from a car. As it says it was speeded up. In real time it will take me about 45 minutes. There is a sheer drop on the left hand side of both roads. This first road leading to the Bear Mountain Bridge is known as the Goat Trail. After that you really enjoy the flat bridge and straight road leading to Perkins Drive where you climb to 1,200 ft in two miles.

The last part nearing the top of Perkins Drive where there is more exposed rock is very nice. Is the amount of traffic in the clip about what there is when you take your rides?  The bicyclists are living dangerously.

Heh heh heh, what's that language you're speaking? Elvish? Sounds really funny! Actually sounds like my missus when she's giving me a bollocking for driving too fast around the bends.

I try to go during off peak hours. The worst place for the bicyclists is the road leading to the bridge. They are insane since 18 wheelers use that road. Once you get into the park it get more civilized. The bicyclists humping up that hill to the summit have my respect. It is steep. Here is a view going down, with more traffic than I prefer. The cars tend to leave in groups, if you time yourself you have a clear road where you can make your own pace.

Nice road Bobby, traffic can be timed as you stated. Looks like some good sweepers with
a few hair pins. I think we all out to get our cameras set up and record our favorite roads.

I am going up that way tomorrow. I may take some pics of the vistas and also how far down you would go if you miss a hairpin. Going down is a bit more tense than going up.
