Craigslist pisses me off...
« on: August 29, 2008, 01:38:16 PM »
I posted looking for a caliper in the motorcycle section and it gets flagged right away. I know its against their policy to post wanted in the forsale section, yet I see ads just like it day in and day out that never get flagged.... Or maybe its guys not wanting anyone posting anything looking for a CB750...

The flagging thing can certainly be abused.  I've heard from other folks that have had the same problem.  It may be someone who needs to sell the same stuff or some goofball who has nothing better to do.

I think Craigslist is a great service and since it's free (for most things), it's nearly impossible for them to police ads.  Their form of policing is allowing viewers to do so.

Ebay has problems too.  Buyers that demand "extras" with a bad rating being their extortion threat...  Sellers can do similar things.

Or maybe the "flagger" is looking for a CB750 caliper....

Happened to me, I figured no one would look in the WANTED ads.

Next time, post a for sale like "Sandcast CB750, needs work" then in the ad mention you need a caliper.

Yeah, Craigslist is notorius for "I'll be right over" and the like.  I used eBay's new classified ads and sold both my cars in three days...  Yeah, I've had ads flagged before too.  Responded to fake ads unknowingly as well.

Yeah, I've had my issues with CL also.
Things getting flagged for no apparent reason, etc. Every imaginable sort of scam responses start immediately after posting.
Then I tried to sell my 79 DOHC 750K - admittedly rough shape, but I was very honest in the description, and only wanted $400.
Some guy started flaming/harassing me by private email, really crude nasty stuff. This went on for about 6 weeks, every day.
I finally had to make a formal complaint to his ISP to get it to stop.
Haven't tried to sell anything else on CL since.
Still haven't sold the bike, either.

I have had luck locally selling a few items on Craigslist. And I have responded to a couple unbelievable motorcycle adds that I have marked as bogus. Always a "local" listing for a very low asking price with a byline such as "Need the money", or going through a messy divorce. But when you get a response to your email you get "The bike is in a special storage and will be released once I receive payment since I am overseas working right now... Right, so I respond "You must think we are all morons in South Dakota and I have notified the list that this is a possible scam.

They say to avoid such scams ONLY deal with local people who will let you see the item before purchase.

This just popped up on the South Dakota Cragslist...

Do you think it is a scam, or just one of those lucky finds???

I have no complaints, however I don't use it on a daily basis.

I spent 4 months looking for my CB. I tried craigslist, ebay, etc...

When I found the one I wanted (craigslist) I called the guy at 8:30 p.m. I drove over 100 miles and picked it up. But then again I am the type that, when I see something I want, I want it NOW!

I really hate the sellers that don't delete their ad after it sells or the edit it as sold thus taking up space and wasting peoples time opening the ad just to see it sold ( JUST DELETE THE FREAKING AD)!

Dude... you got flagged for breaking the rules. Just because other people get away with it doesn't make it...

That being said, anyone who has sold something on CL knows how many flakes there are. People who don't delete ads and don't respond to emails saying "sorry, sold" are the worst.

I take that back. The worst is when you drive 45 miles to pick up a bike that "is in perfect condition, runs perfectly, you can ride it home" to find it barely starts, only runs on two cyls, has holes in the exhaust, and of course - no title. Happened to me three weeks ago. I didn't buy the bike.

I like the ones that just placed another or updated ad, you email and find out that they sold it over 2 weeks ago!!!??? Why did you just update the ad???
