Topic: CB750F1 Identification

I recently purchased two bikes as a restoration project, one is a 1976 F1 and i believe it is original frame and engine, ( frame No CB750F1036893 ) ( Engine CB750E2559174 ). The other one I'm not so sure, the guy i bought it off said its an F2, its got no compliance plate, so i don't know what year it is, and a strange frame number,
( Frame N894356P ) ( Engine CB750E2555873 ).

I'm thinking the first thing i should do is try to find out exactly what it is iv got, so i can decide what i need to do with them. This is my first time playing with sohc's, so the numbers don't mean much to me. Appreciate any info, ill try to post a couple of pics asap.

I've just looked into my 750 parts book and from what I can understand is that CB750E-2000001-onwards is an engine number for K2 motorcycles. As regards the frame number you've shown, I'm afraid I'm stumped.

Theres a timeline with the frame and engine numbers on the website but for the life of me i cant for the life of me find it.
Maybe someone else knows the link.

Cheers guys, iv looked at a couple of those model timelines on other sites. They all seem to indicate that the engine numbers starting with 25 are f1 or f2.

As for the frame number theres no mention of anything like it, someone suggested that it could be an ex police frame, got me stumped too.

Even Police frames should start CB750-

Could the frame have been purchased through honda spare parts as a replacement for a damaged frame perhaps ?

The engine is a 1976 F1. F2 engines began at 26*****
I note that you are from Australia as I am.
The frame number probably indicates it has been an original frame that at some stage has been stolen and recovered by the NSW police.
Some years ago in all states of Australia the police after recovering a stolen motorcycle would make the owner grind of the original frame number and restamp the frame with a police issued number beginning with the state initial and ending in P. I suspect your frame has been restamped at some stage by the NSW police.
I have seen a few of such frames.

Thanks clyde, i geuss thats a possability, although iv had a good look at the number and there is no sign that its been ground down and restamped.

I also just noticed that werever the paint is chipped or worn through on the frame it appers to be white underneath.

To my knowledge there were no F1 bikes used by the police at least in Australia.
They all used a special K model.

Its an F frame so i guess you must be wright Clyde, your the only one to come up with a feasible answer. I didn't buy the bike because i thought it was an ex cop, but i must admit it would have been more interesting if it was, rather than stolen and recovered, but if that's what it is so be it, I'm looking forward to restoring it none the less.

An F1 frame with 2 F1 engines.  The 2nd frame not sure. 

In Australia F2 engine numbers CB750E 2610038 to 2616276 and frame numbers CB750G 1000020 to 1016024.

Yes I just purchased the two bikes within the last two weeks. The bike with the odd frame number was on ebay, and when i went out to look at it he had the other one sitting there as well, and said he would probably list that one when this one finished, so i did a package deal and took the two.

Yeah I thought so as I recognised the numbers from ebay.  I hope you didn't pay a lot for it as it needed quite a bit of work and the engine stripped.  Good luck with it all.  Be good to get another one back on the road.  Don't forget to post some pics durning the process.

New, spare part, frames have no number at all on them and the dealer who fits the frame----Usualy an insurance job, VERY few sold to private people due to cost--- is supposed to stamp in the original number, same as replacement engine cases
