Check my custom CB750 design template!
« on: August 31, 2008, 10:34:23 AM »
This was quite a project!  This one is a stock 1978 frame (58.9 inch wheelbase with a longer swingarm than 1969-76), with holy rear brake drum, bobbed front fender, longer rear shocks and the forks slid up into the tubes a couple inches because that's how my bike is set up.  The speedo is in the headlight shell, there are dual EBC Pro-Lite discs, clipons, 18 inch wheels with a 180 radial rear tire and a 120 front radial because these are planned mods.  The gold rear springs are just for fun.

More variations to follow!

Here's one with low, 4 into 2 pipes.

Here's the frame mod that Benjie (of Benjie's Cafe Racers) usually does to the rear tubes from the swingarm pivot to the shock mounts.  You can see this makes the bike look lighter there.  I did not use his mod of tilting the seat rails up, they are the same angle as stock.

I've not included a rear hoop or the ends of the seat rails so you can draw these in the right length to match your creation.

Same frame, with some high pipes I'm thinking about.  Two on each side.  I sure would need some heat shields to get my wife on there!

Here's one with a GS450 tank and custom rear seat cowl over the passenger seat.  No front or passenger pegs on any of these.

I think this one's my favorite.  A polished alloy Guzzi-style tank from WBO's website with a matching polished rear seat cowl.  (man, it's hard to simulate a polished surface!)

Here's a frame with the rear up tubes stock, like Carpy uses, with a dunstall tank of his.

And a generic bubble tank and cowl.  This was supposed to approximate some of the BCR tanks, but in alloy.

There's no oil tank or batteries in any of these, my plan is hiding them under the fuel tank.  Hey, if I'm gonna have a custom tank, it's gonna be CUSTOM!

All these except the Dunstall tanked bike have room for rear seats under those cowls.  Looks like enough room for one that someone might actually want to ride on, in fact.  Here's one example.  I think it looks good enough that a seat cover is not really necessary!

What do you guys all think?

I do like the guzzi tank. I used an XS750 tank on my little 550. It looks pretty good. I had to relocate the forward mounts. I really think it depends on what you really like.

Believe it or not, I used powerpoint.  Not very well suited for it, but it's all I've got here in Afghanistan.  I'm dreaming-up my mods for when I return stateside, and have been working on this as time allows.

I drew the frame over a pic of a naked CR750 frame, and changed the swingarm to '78 CB750 specs.
