After having carbs off several times from ,my honda 400f engine and getting no where fast, I decided the last thing to try was to look at fuel levels inside the bowls of the carbs, the Rich running seemed to point to fuel level problems, as I had eliminated all other variables ! The problem was to make a small connection into the base of the carb with the drain plug removed .I didnt want to modify the little Honda brass drain screw ,I went looking for a screw of the same thread with a vision of drilling up the centre connecting clear tubing and thus screwing it in and see the actual level of fuel in the Float bowls . I read that the correct level was 3-4 mm below the height of the junction between the bowl and carb body , anyway to cut a long story short, I found that the metal threaded part of a Female BANANA socket , is the exact same thread and it is hollow . !! Banana plugs and sockets are very common in the electronics industry and just about any electronics shop will probably have them , you require the chassis mount female connector that you solder a wire to...look at my picture of one connected to tubing you will have to drill a small hole through the end the 3mm tubing pushes onto , this connects to the large hole up the centre . use the same nut with a small "o" ring to provide a fuel tight seal ,it screws in about 8 turns Dont need to sacrifice a brass fuel bowl drain screw. not sure if this size thread is on other Honda 4 carbs ! cheers Mike
