Whats it worth in the U.K.
« on: August 31, 2008, 04:01:23 PM »
Its here in the U.K. I brought it over with me when I moved here from seattle. I don't yet have papers on it, though of course it can get them (proving to be a royal pain). Whats it worth? runs as good as it looks (so pretty good but not fantastic). should I part it? will it make a ton of difference re the papers? anyone?

The only way to know what its worth is to see what they are going for there and put it up for a comparable amount. Going through the ROYAL pain of getting it registered will make it worth more for sure!! Good looker by the way!!

Standard bikes sell better in UK as most people who want a "special" want it there own way, not other's ideas.

You should have no trouble registering it in UK as long as you have either a US title or a letter from Honda giving the year of build---sorry they wont accept the vin plate!

If you want to call me on 07795162623 after 8pm any evening Sunday to Thursday Inclusive i will talk you through it as i have done several
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Question is where can you get another one if you sell it?
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Come to an agreement with yourself idealy what sum you want and stick it on ebay with a reserve

Won't it be subject to import duty and tax (VAT) to register it in the UK?

I'd say that as long as it is registered here, and runs properly, about £750-£1000

I think that as long as he's owned it for the 6 months previous to importing it into the uk he should be ok.

Sorry to disagree wih Steve D. but I think to be worth £750 plus it needs to be fairly standard (stock). Any modified bike should not be more than £3-500.

Just going on the picture and what they seem to go for on eBay at the moment.

Slightly off-subject: I watched a real shed of an XS1100 go for £1500 this week.  :o

I think that's OK to insure for his use but if he's selling I think it incurs some big fat cut for the boys in Westminster. To register it you have to prove it's been imported properly and customs charges paid (i.e. VAT) or surely everyone would be at it?

I reckon about £300 or maybe £450 if all the paperwork is Anglicised....

My donor CB750K for my CR build was an import from Arizona with all paperwork and charges paid and it cost me £202!

I just finished importing mine to the UK from NZ, I had it for over 12 months in NZ, as long as you have the import certificate and rego papers from the US stating how long you've had it you should be ok - heres what I did:

1) Phoned insurance company - carolyn nash -  gave chassis number as rego to get insurance cover note to get to MOT station

2) rode to MOT station - passed MOT

3) Handed in MOT certificate, insurance cover note, import paper, NZ rego certificate

4) Got tax disc and rego number in post 48 hours later - got new number plate.

5) rode off into the sunset  ;D

So did you get a V5c with the registration to prove it's registered in the UK or is it just "legal" in the UK to ride it? I dunno - really, it just looks too easy!  ;D

Alright to give a bit more background- I moved to the U.K. about this time last year, on a student spouse visa (so you dont pay import duty on possesions you bring with you), and have owned the bike for about 3 years (so 2 before I got here{again releasing me from import duty or tax}) I also brought over a VW bus that has been on the road since last Jan. I did as has been stated with the bus and all was fine. Did the same for the bike and hit a huge snag. I got an mot and was preparing to mail it all in, and then noticed that the frame number on my mot paperwork doeasnt match the import doc.s and U.S. title. The MOT tester read the number off of the frame and as it turns out that does not match the title. Seems both us and uk customs didnt bother to check it anymore than I did when I bought it. So there I am. The dvla wants proof of age from the honda uk cklub and they are useless, and then they want the customs doc.s replace with corrected ones and whole thing pissed me off and I had so much else going on I have just been ignoring it/putting it off since then. I did try buying another titled frame on ebay in order to just swaop all the parts over onlyu to get it home and find it is for an F2 (anyone need one, its in very good shape) on top of that the prospect of getting a moto license here in the UK is considerably more expensive and time consuming than it is in the states. (and before we get all the patriots on both sides worked up into a froth, yes the uk License is better/safer for others/ more inclusive, and yes in the US we have the freedom to do whatever we like without the govt sticking their nose in). and of course you only really have 4-5 months of decent riding weather here, and I am too old to ride in rain/cold.

Anyway I just lost interest. and as it has been sitting I have been thinking I should really sell while it is still nice it rather than let it rot. Of course I will have to get papers on it before it will be worth a damn thing and once I have those I will most likely get the bug again and just fight my way thru getting the bloody license. Time will tell.

I think I will take Bryan up on his offer and give him a ring tomorrow night.

And yes allot of this is a repost as I went thru it all a couple of months ago, that time I tried the honda owners club and mailed letters to 3 people for this "dating evidence". Each one was described as the only guy who could do it and none of them responded (even sent them all return postage!!).

Im really surprised you are having this much hassle. When I imported by CB750K4 into England from the US in 2002 the number on the title (US) was the engine number!! I just went to the local DVLA inspection station in Oxford and had an inspector come out, check the frame number, sign a document verifying that and that was it - got my registration document in the post. MOT followed this.

Id take Bryan up on his offer as he is an ex-MOT inspector (or similar). And hes a nice guy who will help you in any way he can!

good luck
Andy

Blaize - for a dating cert you're best off going to the VJMC. OK you might have to join but then it's a good source of Honda info anyway - well worth it AND you get insurance discounts. Stick at it buddy - gotta be worth it in the long run.
