Here's a new one

I haven't seen this posted in here anywhere else and am wondering if it's a unique circumstance or if others have had similar issues.  I got my carbs tuned in pretty well at this point and the valves are just right as well and timing being dead on.  I was out for a ride yesterday and noticed that I got an occasional bog that had nothing to do with throttle position.  I thought I might be running low on gas, but that was not it.  I finally noticed that the bog is happening with my legs at certain positions.  I've got forward controls and a low situated seat, pod filters and custom 4 into 2 exhaust and when I let my knees relax to the outside a bit, the engine kinda bogs a little bit.  Pull my knees back in and everything is just right.  I think my legs are acting like a fairing and shoving air into the intakes more than normal.  Has anyone else had something like this or am I just crazy?  (That's actually a given) :)

james,i put pods and cut the megaphones off of my 4 into 2`s and when i ride at 65 or so mph i get a lean feeling but when i put my girlfriend on the back it runs fine.must be the wind thing

Strange things happen when you run pods or stacks (or just no airbox). Anything which affects airflow may cause unusual behavior of your carbs. So, yes, these thing can and do occur.

Now are you just crazy? You can get someone else to give you an opinion on that, I don't even know you  ;D

not a cb one but my norton race outfit had that prob my gut was blocking the air flow into the right hand carb on righ handers so bogging in those corners. took a photo taken by a mate to spot it. i have open bellmouths on it.

I have pods, and non-baffled stock exhaust.  I have it jetted well.  But I have noticed similar-speratic behavior from my bike.  It almost feels like a fuel starvation issue, but all the lines are fine.  So yes, I think pods can cause some odd behavior.

I do feel better knowing that it's not just my imagination making this connection.  Now if I could only get the yellow penguin to stop staring at me from stop lights I'd be great....

I think what might be happening to you is that, there may just bee turbulence problems and when you close your legs (?) it helps to stop the turbulence. Maybe even helps to limit the air flow a bit but ???

I get the same kinda situation when riding for a duration at high speeds (70-80 mph).  It starts to bog and gets jumpy on the throttle around 75 after riding at that speed for 15-20 minutes, but I get good response if I gun it.  Hadn't thought it might have to do with airflow blockage...

Gee, all the peculiarities associated with pods sound like an endorsement for stock airbox and filter.

The local Manager at my Honda dealer is a 750 rider (he has a 75 K). He also drag raced them extensively.

He has encountered the problem you are all describing. The pods definately do strange things to later model year motors.

climate can also alter things to  ;) i have pods and 4 into 1 jetted up and no problems at all on my 76' f1  8)  mick.

Maybe the loose cloth of your pants is being sucked over the pods restricting air flow.

Loose cloth?  I only wear spandex :)  Maybe I'll look into making a custom fairing of sorts that keeps the air flow consistent no matter where my tightly covered legs are....

Duct tape 2 blowdriers to your knees blowing into the pods and hook em up to your battery.  That would be an interesting sight with your spandex....
