Never done this before, but let me introduce myself
« on: September 11, 2005, 09:44:45 PM »
Greetings all.  I just got my first bike yesterday (after a wait of 14 years).  In my searching on the web for information for the bike I was interested in throughout the last month, this group came up more often in all my searches.  Mostly the greenspun archives.  So, since this forum has been so helpfull with all my questions, I have decided to join, since I will most likely continue to have questions.  Here is my bike, a 1976 CB550

Hello Phaedrus and welcome to the site.

Post a pic of your bike in the Gallery so that it doesn't get lost in the Open Forum.

BTW - who are you named after?  Plato or Tangerine Dream??

It is an online nicname that started with my wife calling me that when she was refering to me in her LiveJournal.  It comes from the main charachter in Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.  A book I read when I was 18, and caused me to want a bike ever since then.  She has recently relented and allowed me to get a bike.

Of course. Read it (again) myself recently.

Have you seen the postscript to the later printings where Pirsig tells us that his son Chris was murdered?  Sad ending.

BTW. Tangerine Dream was "Phaedra" not "Phaedrus"

I had read in Lila, Pirsig's second book, that his son had died.  I was not aware that he was murdered.  That is sad.  I will have to look for a newer version.
